Using RouterOS to Graph Network Traffic from Remote Site

Tue May 15, 2012 11:46 pm

Have a network setup in the local home office that has a remote site connecting into the network via the ISP's AdTran. The ISP is telling us that the link is fully saturated but are not providing any details about the traffic. Need help finding the best way to graph the traffic between the remote office and the local network. We have no access to the AdTran so we are installing a MikroTik (750GL) in between the ISP Router connecting to the remote site and the home office's network.

We would like to be able to graph all of the traffic by IP and type so that we can get a better idea of exactly what is happening on the system.

Question - I see that RouterOS has some graphing capability and other tools. Will these be enough to get the information that we are looking for? If not, can anyone suggest a program that we could run along with the 750 to generate the graphs by setting up port mirroring on the 750 and sending the data to a laptop that we have connected?

Thanks for the help!

It can give you graphs of the actual usage of the interface, but does not give you graphs based on IP or traffic type. You could torch the interface and watch the traffic or use the packet sniffer and collect packets.
