Serial miks

Fri May 18, 2012 1:58 am

Dear Gentle Folkd,

Two mik 750's are set up identically, all interfaces as bridge1, and
all IP's on the bridge.

mik1 is 192.168.1.201
mik2 is 192.168.1.202
No default gateway
Desktop is 192.168.1.14

Desktop is connected to mik1:eth1.

mik1:eth2 is connected to mik2:eth1

Simple serial line.

Desktop -> mik1 -> mik2

Intent is to test raw speeds between miks.

Desktop can talk to and ping both mik1 and mik2

Neither mik can talk to each other with ping or telnet.

What dumb thing am I missing?

Thanks Homer

RB750 was a little fun to set up as a switch for me.

Have you taken all interfaces from the switch?

Have you checked the firewall? By default is has a basic firewall configured.

OK, I figured it out.

I clear the mik with system reset, then I discard the default.

Then I put all ethers on bridge1, and assign addresses to the bridge.

I usually assign 192.168.1.88 and 192.168.88.1 to the bridge just to keep
some kind of default around.

In this test I ALSO assigned 192.168.1.201 which is on the same subnet as 1.88.

Taking out the 1.88 allowed pings to 202 to work.

Not sure why, an interface should be allowed to have two IP's on the same
subnet on the same interface, we do this all the time.

Thanks for your help.

OK, so here are the results of my tests.

Doing bandwidth test from mik1 to mik2

UDP Both TX RX
97.5/97.5 97.5 97.5 Great!

1 TCP 33.0/32.0 51.4 52.0 Good.

20 TCP 15.0/35.0 45.0 44.0 Not so good.

Why is TX almost half of RX in 20 connection TCP testing?
