Hotspot with IP allocation after Login

Tue Aug 21, 2012 2:01 pm

Hello,

Am new to Mikrotik.

We have a requirement that we need to offer hotspot service to users. Initially user should get a private IP address. With that user should be able to login to the MT hotspot portal with the help of a RADIUS server. After successful login, user should be allocated with public IP address. As we have very less number of Public IP addresses, we want this requirement in hotspot service. Because in hotspot service, IP is getting allocated(when PC is On) to user, even he is not connected to internet. So,we want to make use of these public IP addresses. At present we are able to simulate everything except public IP allocation after successful login. Can any one suggest us the approach how a public IP address can be allocated to hotspot user after successful login.

Thanks in Advance.

Is there any reason why you wouldn't want to use a pool of Public IP addresses at the hotspot Gateway and then allocate private IP addresses to the users? NAT would take care of the public reachability to the Internet.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

we do not want to offer private IP addresses to the users and then NATing to public IP address because, we need to monitor what each user accessing the URLs,which we are doing with other component that will directly give us the log of which IP address is accessing which URL,etc. For many other reasons also, we have to offer public IP addresses to users.

see the simple solution would be
provide your users private IP nated and also put a Squid server on your network as TProxy
then you can log each users visited website easily from proxy logs or even from mysql if you prefer

it's the best option
also you can put RADIUS server on the same Linux box to authenticate users

This is what we are doing now with about 200 users

Hope that helps
