VLAN with Netgear GS748t

Sun Oct 13, 2013 4:29 pm

Hi,
This is the first time that I used VLAN in Mikrotik and I use Winbox.

I have multiple vlans configured in the Netgear switch GS748t and I wanted mikrotik 433 to be a DHCP server for the vlans. As I configured the vlans, pools, and DHCP servers in 433, it didn't work.

Then I reset both devices and configured two ports (45 and 46) in GS748t to be vlan 13. Port 45 is untagged and connected to the PC. Port 46 is tagged and connected to ether1 of Mikrotik 433.

In Mikrotik 433, I added VLAN 13 under ether1 and assigned an IP address 192.168.54.1/24 to the VLAN.

The PC LAN is configured with static IP 192.168.54.22/24.

Under these configuration the ping between Mikrotik and the PC didn't work. And even the winbox didn't work by using MAC address.

Please, could anyone tell me what is the wrong with the configuration?

Thanks in advance

Try uploading your RouterOS config. Also make sure that PVID is set on the untagged port on the Netgear unit.

I have one entire site with these router and switch combo's (300+ devices , 20 odd vlans) . Make sure your PVID is correct on the access port (ie where the pc is plugged into) and make sure it is set as untagged for the vlan you require.Run the vlans to the router as tagged on the trunk port(ie cable running from switch into router). Please do not forget to upgrade the firmware on the switch if you can as I've nightmare issues with the ancient firmware Netgear ships on the switches to retailers.

I usually use VLAN1 for the management vlan , just due to some of the older netgear routers that cannot change their management vlan ID , but you can decide how you want to do it.
