ssd for mikrotik routeros

Sat Nov 09, 2013 12:03 am

i want to upgrade to ssd, my question is about the ssd
Read speed.. ?
Write speed.. ?

is there anny diference from a ssd 8gb to a ssd 64gb, read/write speed are so diferent, does it affect the read/write speed to routeros ?

a 64gb ssd have an average R- 200MB/s ... W- 100MB/s
a 8 gb ssd have an average Read -50MB/S ...Write 14MB/S

i'm a beginner in this, so better ask as buy a ssd that is not needed.

Regards
Adi

The cheapest SSD you can find is good enough.
It is only used for storing the operating system, which is only 20 MB in size.
You don't get any benefits from using a bigger or faster SSD.

Are you sure about that? I ask because I have seen a lot of failures with cheap USB. Now SSD maybe another story compared to the USB sticks, but still ... I mean have you installed any on SSD?

If SSD read and write every day 20 gb it should last for about 5 years...

You don't write that much every day. Ofcourse you should not do lots of logging to the SSD.
Personally I use a USB stick in one machine. Not much logging to disk, only to syslog server. It should survive for many years :)

I don't get people's fear of SSD writes. It has already been proven that unless you have Google sized data you're not going to wear them out. I have SSDs in all my PC's now. It's okay folks!
