CCR ethernet port failures?

Tue Sep 08, 2015 4:32 am

Are CCR ethernet port failures common? I've never seen this behavior before with new devices in a properly grounded equipment rack.

CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+
Port ether1, failure to reach 1G (with auto on or off), 100 only
Port ether4 failed when connected to CCR1009-8G-1S, still dead

CCR1009-8G-1S
Port ether4 failed when connected to CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, still dead
Port 1 & 2 failed connected to various devices, still dead

I have confirmed proper grounding visually and with a multimeter. I'm using standard Cat5e patch cables. Both systems are running 6.31 and firmware 3.27.

I'm getting really nervous about plugging *anything* further in, at the rate ports are dying.

I have few ccr new with 1 or 2 ethernet non functional.
Sometimes I see one ether port is connecting 1gbps and other with same cable router/switch at other end doesnt connects on 1gig only connects at 100mbps. This happened on 1009 brand new

It seems to be a problem not only on CCRs. My friend have RB2011 & 751G - both have one port working only in 100Mb mode. I've seen problems with automatic negotiation but not in that cases - forcing 1Gb results in 100% packets loss.

I guess the appropriate question is when should I RMA them? Frustrating if I can't trust them out of the box. I'm a long way from anywhere and from what I hear RMA is often not worth it. Advice?

Same problem here - a (new) CCR-1009-PC of which ether3 seems fried. Also on newest firmware and ROS version..

In my particular case, it came out of the box with all ports working — it's that they died almost immediately. Basically in the configuration phase. I came back the next morning, and an additional port was dead. Quite frustrating.

I had a 1009 that lost port 4. Just wouldn't do anything one day.

Set up RMA with Distro. Mailed it to them. They tested it and it was dead. They informed me of it and mailed it to Latvia.

That was 11 weeks ago.

I got a call yesterday that Distro is replacing it with their own stock now.

Which is exactly the problem. If these units aren't reliable, I'd have to worry. We use it at our offices, and can't miss it for 11 weeks straight. And I'd rather not buy another one just because I have to for RMA sake.

So for now I am stuck with a CCR with one port less. Unless Mikrotik comes with a solution, one that doesn't require leaving us without our main router for a long period of time and having to replace it. Because if we do replace it, it won't be a Mikrotik any more. :?

Replacement unit installed.

PC unit.

No problem getting to 1G on port 1.

Had the same problem at the beginning. After plug it out from power complete, port came up with 1gbps and is running since then.

I am on my second brand new CCR-1009-8G-1S-1S+ router with a bad ETH 1 port out of the box. It is really frustrating. This is a core router for us so I can't live with it gone for 3 months on a RMA.
