Which RouterBoard

Wed Sep 09, 2015 7:07 pm

I am looking to setup a simple network for a Café. We will have a WAN connection, LAN for internal network, LAN for customer wifi, both LAN networks separated. We would like to run the wifi as a hotspot with a landing page. Which routerboard hardware product will support doing this? Thanks in advance!

Pretty much any board will do what you are asking, what kind of bandwidth are you looking at? A 951 would be a decent plact to start depending on the number of needed wired ports and assuming that you want built in wireless. You could move up to a 2011 with the wireless card built in if you need more physical ports. If you want separate wireless devices, the 750 series is the starting point there.

How many simultaneous users do you think?
Are you going to use extra firewall rules?
Firewall rules are CPU intensif.
A router board 2011 seems to me appropriate, depending on the amount of simultaneous users
