More than 1Gbps internet on CCR1036-12G-4S

Thu Oct 01, 2015 8:01 pm

Hello,
I have a CCR1036-12G-4S with 4 SFP port (not SFP+).
I currently have 1Gbps link with my provider.

How can I get more than 1Gbps using a single port? And what if I can't? Is there a way to have more than 1Gbps?

Thank you :)

You cant have more than 1 Gb/s from a single link because thats the fastest your port will handle. You can combine multiple links to get faster speeds but it means a lot of configuring and getting multiple ISPs or asking your ISP for multiple links and faster bandwidths. You need to remember that even though SFP is rated for 1.25G a lot of ports before and after will be 1Gb/s.

If you really wanted more than 1Gb/s speeds you should've gone for the CCR1036-8g-2S+ which has 10G SFP+ but your ISP would also need to support the same rates and also sell you such bandwidth.

Thank you for your answers :-)

Unfortunately when I bought the CCR I didn't expect to use more than 1Gbps per port, but now I'm thinking about that!

How is it possible to combine links from a single provider?
Let's say they give me 1Gbps on a port and 300Mbps on another, what technologies should I use?

And what if I use two different providers?
At the moment I have a single provider and I also have some C classes of public IPs that I have routed through this provider.
To have two (or more) providers I have to announce these classes directly, correct?
Do you have any experience about that?

And what about having two gateways in two different places with two different providers?

Thank you very much for your time!

simply search on mikrotik wiki about load balancing WANs.

I don't think two provider be a good idea.
Load balancing have own problem, too. And not solve the problem.
Maybe using a pair of fiber solve the problem.

We're a quite large wisp here and it would be a good idea to use two gateways in two different places, but I can't use the same provider because they don't have coverage in the second zone...

You could ask your provider for a second 1G port and do LACP (Link Aggregation)
