You could use it for this, but This device is not a Switch. There is no hardware switch. The OS will process everything in the CPU.

most SAN deployment guides talk about switches not routers

some vendor have a 16 port 10gigabit ethernet (8 x 10GBase-T + 8 x 10 Gigabit SFP+) hardware switch for 3000US with some layer 3 functions

off course for 3000US you cannot have FCoE or another advanced specific storage options

keep in mind here we are talking about ethernet (NAS, NFS, pNFS, CIFS, iSCSI), fiber channel is another world
