RB3011 Fan Notice compared to CCR 1009

Fri Jan 15, 2016 11:55 pm

I currently have a CCR 1009 as my current home router and firewall but it has a really loud fan. Any one had a chance to test the new RB3011 and can let me know if thats any different. Does ARM run cooler and if so hopefully less fans required?

I'm also running my CCR 1009 as my home router but use it either clocked down to 600Mhz or 400Mhz even. It's still mighty fast and unless you are running things at 10Gbit it will probably still be sufficiently fast for your needs even running at the lower clock rates. Also, most often the fan doesn't even turn on in my case or it's quiet enough in it's cabinet to not be a bother in any way.

Alternatively to that you could replace the fan in the CCR1009. That way it should become inaudible or at least whisper quiet. That would be a lot cheaper then buying another device to replace it. It's quite easy to do! You can find more information here.

The RB3011 isn't a bad device, but the CCR1009 will always remain multitudes faster, even running at the lower clock speeds.
