Dynadish real tx power

Mon Feb 01, 2016 12:05 pm

Hello,
I mounted some Dynadish and found that tx power + gain don't seem to be as declared.
You say it's 25dBi gain and max 31dBm of power.

On a perfectly aligned 5km link (can't go better) using regulatory-domain in Italy and set 25dBi as gain it says:
5540/20/an(2dBm)

I should get -70 according to a link calculator, but I'm getting -89.

Trying to set manual-txpower to have a test I get -59, so like its power is 13dBm (according to calculator), but setting 13dBm as "all rates fixed" tx power I get -85.

I can't understand what's wrong here... I also have other Dynadish link and have the same issue: I can't reach calculated signal with free LOS... :(
Using other products I can reach calculated signal. Only with Dynadish I can't :(

Anyone had this issue?

Are your Dyna's RouterOS and firmware versions up to date? Highly advisable to do a reset to no defaults after upgrading and load configuration afterwards. Even a reset wireless configuration wouldn't harm.

Are signals even? Could you post registration table > signal screenshots?

Sure, for example this is one link.
dynadish_5km.jpg
5km distance, frequency 5500MHz, firmware 3.24 and RouterOS version 6.33.1.
I tried to set mode to "manual-txpower". I should get 31dBm as max power at lowest modulation so it should report -41.

As you can see, it's -55, and I can't get better signal, so it's pointed.

I know that's a high signal and not regulated, but it's a test to understand how Dynadish tx power works, because it doesn't seem to be working as expected.

Calculator is synthetic, you will never get the same in real life, unless you run the link inside some vacuuum on another planet :)

Sure, but I always had 2-3 dBm difference, here I have A LOT less... :?

Latest is 6.34, don't know if it contains a higher firmware version.

Try upgrading to that first.

Regarding TX-power, see http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Wi ... n_I_use.3F

Then comes country restrictions, for lower bands I don't know what the limits in Italy are, but it can come as down as 100mW (and are usually restricted for indoor use); for upper bands I doubt it exceeds 1W (30dBm).
