Q2 2016 But still no Gigabit PoE Routerboard...

Tue May 17, 2016 1:29 pm

There are tons of Gigabit PoE manageable switches on internet but still Mikrotik has none. (Except in MUM Ljublana)
Ubq has realised EdgePoint Gigabit PoE Router, nice made and very practical but most of us 70-90% of equipment is mikrotik so in my interest its best to use Mikrotik made PoE Routerboard, its Q2 2016 there is no offer yet...

There's RB260GSP if 3 ports is all you really need.

No, my next router should support ac, 1Gbps WAN and SFP at the bare minimum, 10x gigabit in one switch, and 128MB flash too. 4x 10GbE would be better.

Hi Lukasz,

normal the Delay between Mikrotik available and you got it in your Hand is 3-4 Month!
I hope they will learn that, and  give better release dates to costumers.

Before a product goes on sale, there are multiple steps, each step involves lots of testing and improvement. If we did promise an approximate release date, but it is passed, it means we had some kind of delay at one of these steps. If something needs to be improved, it usually introduces delays. Very hard to predict how many changes we will have to make before starting shipments. We try to be realistic in the predictions, but sometimes they are not precise.

I am hopeful that Mikrotik is going to replace some new hardware soon.
1) CRS with e.g 24 SFP slots and at least 2 SFP+ slots
2) CRS with POE and ethernet with 1 x SFP+ slot and 1 x SFP slot

Yeah, kind of hoping they'll counter Ubiquiti hardware again (they did so brilliantly with the wAP AC). Their new Edgeswitch 16 XG is a great combination of ports!

Still hoping/waiting for STP and maybe LACP support for the current CRS line, that would be very nice.

Other then that, I'm hoping for something with for a 4x to 6x SFP+ AND 4x to 6x RJ45 10Gbit switch for an affordable price. That would be killer! I wouldn't even care if it was wire-speed or not. For anyone considering 10Gbit at home or a small business this would be awesome! You'd be able to use cheaper DAC cable and fiber using the SFP+ ports and hook up some hosts with RJ45 too (it's starting to become more common).

Investing in a 10Gbps connected setup right now is "okay" looking at network cards and such (even RJ45), their price has come down a lot. A direct connection between hosts is "cheap" but as soon as you need a switch, you get instantly killed by a very high price! The same with my 10Gbps backbone setup, it's great for that (and consumer internet won't become faster then 1Gbps for the foreseeable future) but I would like to hook up a few 10Gbps hosts too.

Hoping maybe at the end of 2017! We can hope right. ;)

@marcin21

you will see the devices for summer 2017
We switch to another brand, Mikrotik sell Gigabit Devices since 2012 and did not have any ROS Powering device today....
Mikrotik is sleeping in any kind....
what is about 802.11ad? USB and PCIe Boards are avaible, but not supported jet, why?
I think Mikrotik did not have focus to Wireless any more....

It's not only my feeling that mikrotik doesn't listen to users requests. I gave up with being free betatester of whatever they produce but the hell
hex poe was announced long time ago and should hit the market between march and june 2016 and we have october yet.
this forces me to use much of unwanted extra stuff as poe injectors so I wonder if POE capable router is so complicated to
engineer or is there any other issue blocking this product to hit market?

Hi,
I am hopeful that Mikrotik is going to replace some new hardware soon.
1) CRS with e.g 24 SFP slots and at least 2 SFP+ slots
+1
I would be reallllllyyyyy happy to get from MT at least 16 port SFP switch (with 2 additional SFP+ ports for interconnections).
Well, my dream is: 8+ port SFP+ switch 8) (if ports would support also SFP modules that would be cherry on top :D )
I am busy investigating Quanta and Edge-core as aggregation 10Gbps SFP switches.
Thanks for tip, I didn't know those manufacturers.

I wonder if MT even take notes what it's customers and users expecting....

Ps. I'm not touching matter of support 802.3ad (LACP) in CRS  (this probably is the most awaiting thing by my :D )

hEX PoE https://routerboard.com/RB960PGS
Supported input voltage 12 V - 57 V
PoE out 802.3at
PoE in 802.3at

Is this true? Active POE on the output for cameras and phones.

Ordered 50 of the units as I needed a small router with an SFP port and didn't want to spend extra on a Hap ac when wireless is not needed. They are all going into enclosures with netgear GS110t POE switches - I presume I can then power the router via the POE in. Not 100% sure on the PoE out - a few sites suggest its normal passive PoE out etc.

e.g Note: This POE is _not_ 802.3af/at standards based.
It is "passive" POE and outputs the power supply voltage via the unused pairs on on Ethernet ports 2-5. This will power Mikrotik, Ubiquiti, and other POE devices that use passive POE.
This is from https://www.roc-noc.com/mikrotik/router ... 60PGS.html
I need to power 802.3af phones - I should be able to test if it works next week when they arrive. Although I already have the netgears - sigh. If these Hex POE's work nicely - then pity they did not arrive a few months ago when I ordered tons of these netgears. OH well...

Just received my Hex POE's. Works amazing. Powering the device by ether1 to a Netgear, and providing power to a Yealink phone (which says 802.3af on the specs). Well done Mikrotik.
