Basebox 2 + SIM7100 performance

Tue Aug 16, 2016 11:25 pm

Hi

I am thinking of replacing my terrible ADSL Internet connection with 4G/LTE.
My idea is to use a BaseBox 2 (RB912) with a SIM7100E mPCIe LTE module. I want to achieve as good performance as possible.

My questions are:
1.
Are there any limitations in the RB912/SIM7100E combo regarding performance or will it be possible to reach full speed (100 Mbps DL / 50 Mbps UL) as long as all other conditions (reception, network performance etc) are met?

2.
Can I use the BaseBox 2 simply as a bridge, connecting its ethernet port directly to the WAN port of my main router (RB750GL), I.E. no NAT/Masquerade on the Basebox?

I don't know the answer to question 1, sorry, but have you considered the https://routerboard.com/RBSXTLTE3-7?
Whichever device you pick, yes, you can create a bridge and add the Ethernet and the LTE interface to it.

Thanks for your answer.
I have already ordered a BaseBox 2 and a SIM7100E and looking forward to try them out.

As I know this modem with ROS v6 work only in PPP mode.
High speed mode supported now by ROS (DirectIP) not supported by this modem.
High speed modes of this modem (MBIM and QMI) not supported by ROS now (rumors say - MBIM should be supported in ROS v7).
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Supported ... and_modems

With this modrm on current ROS You limited by around 10 Mbit/s (limitation of serial mode PPP)

Yes. I might have made the assumption that the BaseBox 2 has ROS 7.x since I buy a brand new unit but I might be wrong. That would be bad...

I see now that I made a mistake ordering the SIM7100 since the BaseBox only seem to have RouterOS 6.x. DOH!

Yes, I see that now.
Because of that, I find it a little odd that it is even mentioned under Supported Hardware. Still; my bad! I'll get a Huawei instead :)

you can not add the LTE interface to a bridge by now. (I know thats not what we all want... - so MikroTik please fix this)
