RB600 and XR5

Thu Mar 20, 2008 11:19 pm

How many XR5 cards can i use with RB600?
Are RB600 MPCI slots raised enough to use more than one XR5 card? Do i have to use a doughterboard for 4 XR5?

MenInBlack -
I have never used more than two XR cards due to power limitations....mostly for what I could 'stuff' in to a CAT5 cable (using PoE). I would closely check the RB600 specs and see if it can support 4 amps on the 3.3vdc bus, otherwise it will not work with that many XR cards.

Due to the unusual height of the XR2 and XR5 you can only fit two into the minipci slots built onto the RB600. You can add 4 more minipci slots using the RB604 daughterboard.

I have a RB600 with 3 XR5's and 3 XR2's. I had problems using a PAC POE-48i power supply then I switched to one of these 60 watt power supplies and haven't had any problems since.. The 16.8 watts of the PAC just wasn't enough to power up the rb600 with all of the cards and daughterboard. That board now has over 150 wireless clients connected and 2 point to point links..

Gerard,

4 XR's on the daughterboard, and 2 XR's on the RB600?

What type of enclosure is that in?

Have any pics?

Thanks,
-Dean

I don't have any pictures handy, but that board is mounted in a 16x12x8 Hammond Manufacturing Eclipse series enclosure..

I have other pops with 3 XR2(using 5mhz channels) and 2 XR5 cards in these enclosures..

I'll see if I can find some pics of the installs..

Gerard,
Those last enclosures have 4 N ports, how are you using 5 cards in that enclosure?
