3.x on RB532 (not RB532A)

Wed Nov 19, 2008 11:32 pm

I have an opportunity to purchase some RB532 (not RB532A) boards. Does the 532 have enough RAM (32M rather than 64M) to run RouterOS 3.x? What kind of performance hit should I expect, in light of my plans to add an RB502 expansion kit and 2 additional radios to each? Will adding a 256M SD make any difference?

We have not seen good performance from RouterOS 3.x on RB5xx boards. We recommend 2.9.51 for RB532 and RB532a and have kept our own RB5xx boards at that level.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the reply. We have three 532As that have been running ROS 3.xx (currently 3.16) in the field like champs. My concern was specifically about the reduced RAM of the pre-A 532.

(I have since learned that the 532 also has a slower CPU than the 532A, so the four-radio idea with the RB502 daughter boards is off the table.)
