493AH set at 100MHz

Fri Dec 12, 2008 5:51 pm

We purchased a 493AH and put it inside one of our boxes in a tower's building. Last night we went there and replaced it, as it was powered on but unresponsive (felt like 100% cpu). It was very hot inside the box, due to the fact that the AC was seemingly failing inside the building (building was around 85-90'f). I got it back to the shop this morning, and after performing a netinstall on it a few minutes ago, I happened to notice that the cpu frequency was set to 100MHz instead of the default 800MHz 493AH's run.

Is it possible that it downclocked itself due to the heat? We're just curious, for future reference.

Thanks!

Don't know about the downclocking but the default CPU should be 680MHz not 800MHz.

800MHz is considered overclocking and might be less stable.

Just curious but was this on a UPS or plugged directly into building power?

I've tried overclocked to 800Mhz on RB 433AH and RB 493AH, and it locked up the RBs to not booting.... and had to do manual booting.
If successfully overclocked, the units sometimes reboots not sure if it overheated or something else, and it returns the cpu clock to 680Mhz.

So, i'd say 800Mhz is not reliable even though it is capable. Don't overclock them!
