Tue Apr 21, 2009 8:04 pm

I need to install an access accespoint point to multipoint with a RB433AH and to cover an huge area in a distance of 25 km but i cant realize that with R5H minipci. Can i use XtremeRange5 5 GHz on RB433AH router board? i need to know if XtremeRange5 5 GHz of ubiquiti is compatible on RB433AH?
Can anybody help me on this?

XR5 is quite compatible with RB433AH but you cannot stuff more than two of it into the RB433AH.

If you can't achieve 25km with R5H, I doubt if you will achieve it with XR5 using the same infrastructure. The key to achieving long distance is in the antenna not the raw power of the wireless card. Use good quality high gain antenna and you will achieve 25km even with R52.

You can use three R5H cards in the RB433AH. On the AP side, use the pacific wireless 120deg, 16dBi sector antenna. Use 30dBi Parabolic antenna Dish on the client side.

Here is a link calculator

Thanks again Skillful. Here is another question for you. Instead of RB433AH i will use RB600A. This one has 4 slot for minipci. Can i use 4 minipci R5H on this board?

Thanks again for helping.

If you want cover 25km @ 360degree you need decrease each sector beam to 25-35 degree and use something like 23dBi antennas. But there is other aspect as higher gain antenna you use as smaller vertical pattern you have. That's mean you have good signal strength on farther customers and bad on closest customers. Decrease cell size or use point-to-point solution. Wireless network projection is very complicated thing.
Regarding this theme I hear that MT plant make RB hardware training class what include wireless network projection, antenna theory, right RB hardware choice, proper grounding / shielding, proper RB installation, most occurrence mistakes at client site etc.

You can verify your link also using by free link distance / budget complex calculator which has pre-defined database of many wireless cards or wireless devices. http://www.wavearena.eu/calculator/
