RB493AH @ 800Mhz

Sat Apr 25, 2009 1:22 am

I just purchased 5 RB493's. Mikrotik's website states that these units will do 800Mhz (Factory tested!?). Out of the 5 I can only get 1 of them to boot at 800Mhz. I have even tried upgrading the BIOS from 2.18 to 2.20 as well as upgrading the RouterOS to 3.23.
Any suggestions?
Think I should be able to return these units?

No. There are using a 680MHz processor. Why do people think that they need to overclock? If they ran reliably at 800MHz then MT would ship them set to that frequency.

Roc,

Even your site advertises using these at 800Mhz
http://www.roc-noc.com/product.php?productid=118

These are straight out of the box. It is certainly not a heat issue.
MT has a history of not testing things fully. I should not be surprised that they state factory tested and lie about it.

These are plain boards. No add-on cards. I took one straight out of the box. Hooked it up with a serial cable. Changed the CPU speed to 800Mhz and it did _not_ boot RouterOS. This indicates to me that these boards are _not_ being properly tested by Mikrotik.

If anyone else has access to the RB493AH, I would like to know if it works for them at 800Mhz?

default is 680MHz, and overclocking is not recommended. 800MHz works in some cases, but it's not guaranteed.

Mine never works running 800Mhz, most units tested, i had to press reset button to get it working again.

While 433AH @ 800Mhs performs just the same as 680Mhz. Some units even reboot itself or need hard reboot when running @ 800Mhz.
