ROS on RouterBoard/X86 with 8 WAN port load balanced?

Tue Jul 14, 2009 3:47 pm

Hi, Gurus
I'm totally newbie to ROS, but probably not linux.
I used to run Tomato firmware on BCOM based devices as a Router, and got a lof of benefit from VPN/QoS/DDNS/Script.
One of my friend is launch a office with 80 network client, which i'm not sure Tomato could handle or not (especially performace). I've been helping him on build the network enviroment. Some parts of concept are Multiple WAN ports (maybe up to 10) with load balance (saving cost), Gigabit switching, 802.11b/g/n AccessPoint, IPSEC over L2TP VPN.
So my question is, what are needed to get 8 wan port on RouterBoard hardware? RB 493A after reconfig 8 LAN port to WAN? Or X86 PC with 2 RouterBOARD44GV all configed to 8 WAN port? And the perfomance lag between RouterBoard and X86 (generally Core2 Duo 2GHz, 2GB RAM) would be how large? Or RouterBoard is more reliable?
Thanks for anyone who can help me out of these confusions. And have a good day.
