the signal strength just dropped suddenly it was going very far initially but suddenly just drop and even in the closest distance from the omnidirectional antenna it gives very low signal please i urgently need help to improve the signal strength.

no, no, exact numbers please. I have seen too many times -65 signal be called bad. give more details about the link and the exact numbers that you see when you get good signal, and when you get bad signal

we can chat if you are on line normis on skype

connect with serial console cable and type "/system reset-config"

then start from beginning, but make sure that:

1. you don't change the tx-power settings!
2. you attach an antenna to the card before enabling it

if you didn't do these things in the first place, you might have already damaged the card

i dont have a serial console cable. but if i reset it from the board what effect will it have?

i mistakenly deleted my hotspot directory in the File list using winbox.exe, because when i type ftp://192.168.12.1 i get something like ftp://192.168.12.1/hotpost/htpp://192.168.12.1/login and tells me the page cannot be displayed that is why i want to reset the whole thing to start from a fresh. Please what do i do i am new to Mikrotik router .

you don't need to have the cable, you can use Winbox and connect to the MAC address of the ethernet port when you have done the reset. The only reason for this is that you will probably also lose the IP addresses.

will this improve the signal strength or can you log in to the router and see what could be causing the signal loss?

this will make sure that signal loss is not caused by misconfiguration.

you still haven't told us anything about the setup. please answer these questions:

1. what is the best signal you ever saw in this installation?
2. what kind of device is the client and how far is it?
3. did you change anything in the config? when did the signal get worse?

i have gotten a best as -30, the client i am using is about 100 meters away and then it could browse through the client, but now the client cannot see it anymore.

for the client i am using:
1. router board rb433
2. omni-directional antenna
i did not change anything in the configuration.

can you check it to see if you can improve it or see what is wrong?

it could be possible that the wireless card is damaged in some way. this could happen during a storm without properly installed grounding. if you have the opportunity, try to change the wireless card and see if situation improves

yes, put it into the slot, and re-apply the configuration that you need for this setup. probably you will need to set the SSID and enable the interface, then add IP address.

click on the "freq usage" button on the right, and see which frequency is used the least. try that one.

experiment will show it best, from current information, i have no idea why you have problems. it could be bad card, damaged cables, interference or any other reason.

if changing frequency doesn't help, try changing the card. be careful, plug in the antenna cable, and only then turn on the routerboard.

i clicked on the frequency usage it did not show anything i even clicked on start but nothing showed.

is that card working at all ?

i dont know but i want to slot another card now.

Please give me the commands and step-by-step instruction to get the new card properly configured, so that i don't make mistakes.

connect with winbox, go to "Intefaces" menu, double click on the wireless card name, enter the SSID that you need, click OK, then click on ENABLE button. Any client will be able to connect now. You can even leave the SSID as default, just make sure to enable the card. For getting a signal reading, this will be enough

if not add something above your omnis like this

in some areas omnis just kill the radios and some areas work well

i have slot the card and clicked on enable, it is still searching for network, but the frequency band i see is 5ghz do i change it to 24ghz

well what was it before 2.4 of 5

mikrotik defualt is 5ghz

i set the mode to ap brigde and now it is saying runing ap so what next

i can now see the frequency usage. but i cannot connect to the login page like before and it tells me limited connectivity, even though the signal is good.

but my problem is that i can see the signal as excellent but when i connect i it tells me limited or no connectivity.

what could be the problem. i can login to the winbox but no login page is appearing. again, this happened when i just changed the faulty wireless card.

i need help, do i need to reset and reconfigure the router if yes please give me the commands to do it then i will change some of the parameters that match what i need.

no your ip address must get set to the wlan intereface


go ip address click on the address that you linked to and set it to wlan1 then all should be ok

hi everyone, well i had a problem with my signal strength, it was excellent say from 100meters away from the antenna, but it suddenly dropped, even if i stay very close to the antenna it still was giving low signal strength. so i thought it was the wireless card that may have gone bad so i changed it with a new one, but after changing it with a new one it still is giving me very low signal strength.

Please the gurus help me out. could it be some configuration problem or what?

well ast i sed be for change you omni to a pannel as it can be your omni thats keeps killing your radio as you sed it was fine after you replaced th radio

you should maybe read to manual to get the basic right so you can undestand what you are working with
