Need professional comment to build up a set of ROS system

Sun Mar 14, 2010 7:30 am

I, guys
I'm a newbie to RouterOS, but used to run Tomato firmware.
Here is my purpose:
RB433/RB433AH plus 2.4GHz wireless (802.11BG to mobile devices) and 5GHz wireless (Mobile PC etc).

Plan is:
Buy a R52N and set up dual band/SSID (1 for 2.4GHz, another for 5GHz), is it possible? Since there is only 2 Antennas, so MIMO won't b utilized for 802.11n, right?
If it's true, I'd like to buy 2 miniPCI card (R52+R52N ) for RB433. Then comes another question, would 4 Antennas on one RB433 board affect each other. Actually I don't think so (2.4GHz and 5GHz shoud not affect each other), but just need professional comment...

Thanks in advance.

Cant run both frequencies at the same time. If you want to have both 5ghz and 2.4ghz at the same time, you need 2 cards.

Hi, I have the same config:

RB433AH with ROS 4.6

1x R52 for mobile devices, wii console (running 802.11b/g on 2.4Ghz - with one 5dBi indoor antenna)
1x R52N for the laptop PC - DELL Latitude E6400 with Intel Wifilink 5300 AGN (running 802.11n on 5Ghz - with two 7dBi indoor antennas)

The N protocol sucks on mikrotik ;) tx throughput 29mbit/s and rx throughput 17mbit/s (TCP)

My suggestion: Save money and get a better performance buing an 802.11n home router ;)

Do you get 300 Mbit/s from the laptop to the AP also? In my setup everything seems correct, throughput from the ap (r52n) to the laptop (intel 5100) is 300 Mbps, but backwards it is only 54 Mbit/s.

I know I need to be careful with the encryption, but I've tried with no encryption and also with WPA2-AES, and got the same results: 54 Mbps from the laptop to the ap.

Thanks for any help!

I dont think that is a MT problem, but a driver/antenna in the laptop problem. My bluray player syncs at 300,300. My laptop syncs at 300/54.

I have yet to see a single AP that my laptop will sync at 300,300.

I have a WDS bridge setup at my office for testing and it is 300,300 MT to MT w/ AES2.
