Got a UPS on that power? Sounds like typical power brownout to me. If the input voltage drops below 9v, that will probably cause a kernel failure, and you should get the "cause 1" error on the next boot. As I recall, "cause 1" is power failure.

EDIT: I think the newer versions of RouterOS display this message in the log now:
dec/31/1969 18:00:11 system, error, critical router rebooted without proper shutdown, probably power outage

I also get the "System rebooted because of kernel failure" message, but there is no secundary message relating to power outage.

SYMPTOMS:
The board loses connection to the Internet and remains accessible from the LAN
When it reboots shows the following:
- the kernel failure message
- the "router rebooted" message (I sent the reboot command)
- gets DNS
- connects the radio
- goes on with normal operation

THE GEAR:
RB433 using RouterOS 3.30
1 minipci radio card
operating as AP

THE SETUP
the board is connected to an UPS
a computer powersupply feeds 12 volts
an UTP cable (20 meters long) connects the RB433 via POE to the cable modem
the RB433 is the only equipment connected to this 10 AMP powersupply

On the other end of the link I have another RB433 using the same Router OS V3.30 with a much larger service load and shows no issues.

It was presenting the same issue under ROS 3.28, and remained after the upgrade to ROS 3.30.

At this moment I'm testing with watchdog on to an external IP to minimize downtime. If the WAN interface stop working the system will reboot.

What else should I look for?

Any help solving this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jose
