Problems with Huawei E220 - "SIM failure"

Fri Oct 16, 2009 8:29 am

I hooked up another E220 for a friend (bought on the net) to a RB433UAH, but RouterOS reports pin-status: "ERROR: SIM failure"

This is the output:
[admin@RB433UAH] /interface ppp-client> info ppp-out1
            status: "ready"
        pin-status: "ERROR: SIM failure"
     functionality: "minimum"
         gprs-mode: "unknown"
      manufacturer: "huawei"
             model: "E220"
          revision: "11.313.02.00.01"
     serial-number: "354137025443674"
  current-operator: "unknown"
    signal-strengh: 1954108755
I have unlocked the E220 using DC-unlocker and DC-unlocker reports "unlocked"
Upgraded to the latest FW available from operator.

Here is output from my old E220, which works:
[admin@RB433UAH] /interface ppp-client> info ppp-out1
            status: "call in progress"
        pin-status: "READY"
     functionality: "minimum"
         gprs-mode: "A - HSDPA"
      manufacturer: "huawei"
             model: "E220"
          revision: "11.116.04.03.01"
     serial-number: "358191011404584"
  current-operator: "TELENOR"
    signal-strengh: -101
Both have SIM cards from the same operator, pincode disabled.
If i insert my own simcard in his data card, it fails with the same message.
If I insert his simcard in my data card, it works OK.

This must be something with the E220 itself, right?

Any tips?

If there is no warranty, open it and clean the connectors to the Sim card.
Use a cotton swap and some ipa alcohol for this.

If it is an unlock problem try http://unlocke220.com
