Comparison Routerboards vs. PCEngines ALIX-Boards

Wed Nov 04, 2009 2:42 am

Hi,

actually I am using ALIX-boards with ROS, very reliable and stable, no problems (Swiss quality, it looks like).
But it might be, that because of performance reasons, I might have to change to Routerboards.
Does anybody have a clue about the CPU-perfomance of the Routerboards compared to the ALIX ?
ALIX is running at 433MHz (LX700) or 500 MHz (LX800), using AMD Geode LX CPU.

Actually, what I like most with the ALIX is the fact, that they have easy to be installed CF-cards. Makes installation of ROS quite simple.

Hi,

with routerboards the instalation is more simple than with a CFlash, and cheaper. You open the brand new board case and routerOS is installed.. xD

That is an argument. But for my hotspots I also like the 256Mb RAM, I have in the ALIX, to be used for cache.
And, looking into the forum here, the fact, that ALIX is x86 based, seems to avoid some problems :-)
