Set top box

Mon Jan 25, 2010 7:36 pm

Has anyone tried a mikrotik board to run VLC client running IPTV multicast and unicast VOD ?

I am looking for a low cost Set to Box, doesn't need to be High Definition but DVI is essential

would appreciate any info

I really doubt the routerboards have the CPU power for this

Neither does it have the hardware for it (DVI, S-Video, Audio, the list goes on). Would be very hard to do this on a MT based platform with the current hardware available.

Well I have been looking at a PCI DVI card but I cannot find any mini-PCI versions. The PCI card should do most of the processing ( although i'm not too convinced about this) and the mikotik router comm port would work as a IR remote control feed.

IP STB are becoming a big issue for rolling out IPTV and IP VOD in the hospitality market. Owners are rejecting the tecnology cause of the room rollout cost. Get the IP STB cost down and we see some big business
