I discovered that the bootloader is stored in a serial flash 512kbits (Pm25LV512)

I would like to have this too. But i don't think we'll get help with DIY projects from official stuff members because there are other options from routerboard higher price ranged with more ram. It is usual and normal to protect your investment. Let me know if you find something :)

regards

I soldered an IC with 64Mb, but Ive to modify the bootloader to have the whole 64Mb, Im sure if I get the bootloader of RB411AR it will work.

here some photos

This is the upgraded chip (EDD5116AFTA-5B-E) DDR400 (3,3,3) http://www.elpida.com/eolpdfs/E0699E50.pdf click here to download the datasheet
Imageclick on the photos to see it

This is the original chip (EDD2516AETA) DDR400 (3,3,3) http://www.elpida.com/eolpdfs/E0859E50.pdf click here to download the datasheet

this chip is the same as the RB411AR has
Image

bootloader chip and nand chip

now I just have to modify the bootloader, I guess will be hard, cause the cpu is AR7240, just have the .fwf files
If someone who knows where to modify please let me know
thanks

I think will be harder o modify fwf file, see 493 and 493AH. It uses the same firmware and it have different memory size.
Maybe check openwrt sources can help you.
Did u dump the bootloader chip or this file is from routerboard.com?

the bootloader is stored in a tiny serial flash chip. PM25LV512 and a copy in the nand flash. the serial number and model is stored in the serial flash. I think it just compared with models, I dont know for sure if the memory address is mapping static o based on boards.

Is it really worth the effort? Maybe add 60$ to the price, and get RB450G with 256MB of RAM, Level5, serial port and Gigabit :) ?

Amazing!

Please tell me how you removed and replaced the 66 pin IC without damaging the board traces. It looks very professional.
It was a lot of work for me just to count the pins.

with Hot Air Soldering iron.... I think the rb750 is the most cost-benefit is good.. the problem was few RAM so like the new board rb450 come with 64mb, so can be more uptime

The last hot air soldering iron I used was from PACE and cost $10,000 and up...

With Color Cameras and display was $12,000

Had to take a 3 day course taught by a PACE instructor that we had to fly out...
Had to pass a place, pull, place, pull, place test (Unit had to still work, no damage to part or board)
Was NOT fun !!!

We used to repair hard drives and motherboards... Yes I am dating myself... LATE 80s and mid 90s..

Come to think of it... that is the same time Irwin magnettics was comming out with a 80MB tape drive. Seagate was still selling 20MB drives and just starting with the 60MB drives.. Remember "RLL" encoding?? and ST506 interfaces... OUCH I FEEL OLD !!!!!!!!! I need to go pull some grey hair out... Wait ...,,, that is just about all that is left (What there is...)

Most of the time I used it to remove the old part, and I would install the new one by hand.. It was faster and usualy got better results...

Any more I probably could not even see the pins of some of the higher dot pitch devices, let alone solder them with a needel tip...

Those were the days !!
