Hope there are more 7xx models in the pipeline.

what's the difference with most of our RB411 products?

the RB711 is special because it doesn't have any of those features, that way it's cheaper.

It would be useful if you were to tell your distributors under an NDA, so that we can plan our ordering to coincide with new products.

I'm very disappointed too! :(

Is it so difficult to bring something really useful like a 450G + R52Hn + L5 in a nice metal case? I'm pretty sure that's what most of us were expecting for. It would sell like hotcakes.

Yes, my RB dream:

ideal CPE for indoors:

3x eth (build in switch)
1x build in radio (b/g/n or a/n)
1x minipci

ideal CPE for outdoors:
RB711 + jack DC, + not integrated lan in cpu.

I think this is a fantastic product, perfect fit for WISP CPE radios in combination with Mikrotik's new Nv2 TDMA protocol. Great work Mikrotik.

There are so many potential products Mikrotik could make, the thing is every variation costs a lot of money in design and tooling, so they have to choose carefully what they put into production.

I think the ones that would be hot sellers would be:

RB750GR RB750G but with 802.11n radio
RB980G(R) plastic cased SMB router with 8 switched ethernet ports, (R) for possible 802.11n model
RB980GD(R) plastic cased SMB router with 8 port switch and A/VDSL2+, (R) for possible 802.11n model
RB????U Rack mount, multi-core router with 2+ SFP slots, multiple gigabit ethernet, USB 2.0, hardware crypto acceleration and externally accessible micro-sd slots

Yes. MikroTik will make yet another (say 11) product for You. It will do your dishes, washing up, make food and of course do you a b*ow job.
And for the real. C'mon people! RB 711 is great, great low cost CPE with 11a and 11n and faster CPU. It is great successor of 411 board.
There will be other boards to meet most demands (and I mean most, not ALL. ALL is not possible ever). Why are You always complaining? The more I see such complains, the more I believie that if Normis gave you people $100 for free, you would say: "I'm disappointed. Only $100?". Once again - c'mon…

OK but 711 with DC jack and 2x MMCX , increase cost +1$ ?

RB711 with this is more funcional and cost negligible.

build in LAN in CPU for outdoors is very bad idea.

Why the hell You need DC jack if this is CPE BOARD THAT WILL LAND IN OUTDOOR BOX with antenna? Use PoE and stop whinning.

Two MMCXes? Let me repeat. This is LOW COST CPE. One radio chain. Don't want use one chain in 11n? Stick with 11a. Remember about LOW COST. You need two chains? Wait. Maybe MT will do such board. If not - use RB 411 with ANY card You want. Period.

LAN controller in CPU is veeery bad oh yes? No. It's good for some reasons. For lowering the price. But wait! You wrote this, because you though about damaging LAN by lightning. Am I right? Well, I must be and I am. You know what? Ground your installation properly and LAN won't damage.

Your arguments are very weak. I wrote earlier about $100 but must do this different. Please stop (for God's sake) whinning/complaining about this board. It's a LOW COST CPE board. You won't use it for main radio links in your ISP company. You won't use it as base station board. Read form my lips: LOW COST CPE board. You want a S-Class Mercedes? Then pay for it and stop spitting the acid at MT because they developed new board.

OK: 711 is LOW COST CPE board.
But DC JACK and second MMCX how is cost ? 0,5, 1$ ?

Second mmcx is not necessary for me, but with DC JACK I can use this board for indoors without PoE.

No chyba że ty kopiesz ludziom uziomy to pełna powaga i chyle czoło.

RB711 is a fine low cost board. It's a drop in replacement for RB411 CPE and great upgrade path. It conserves bandwidth due to single chain while providing enough speed to each user. My guess it'll probably be $50 to $60. At that price point one cannot argue that replaceable wifi card would be better. And, if one needs power jack - POE injector is just a few bucks extra.

If You need this board indoor, then buy a DC PoE adapter and connect it only with UTP cable.
REALLY I don't see a problem here. There are lot of such DC adapters in Poland and other countries. And You will have only one cable then, not two.

And please remember. We are not arguing here — we are discussing. That is a huge difference.
Also. Don't attack me (You tried do that in polish language). Think it all over again. MT tries to make boards for everyone and not everyone will be happy. It's a life. Don't like 711? Wait for next board from 700 series.

And cool down ;)

I waiting for RB711 with jack :-)
Additional POE adapter (or POE buildin power supply) is more expensive and more problematic for clients. (in indoor CPE)

I install indoor CPE near AC outlet and have only one cable not two for client terminal :-).

I don`t attacking you :-), but I explained to you (in polish) just how much you are wrong about the real installation of lightning protection.

"MT tries to make boards for everyone" OK, but I think here (RB711) too cut costs.

And I think this is a wrong approach.

So in general who will install a good lightning protection for so cheap RB? Skipping the effectiveness of these safeguards. I understand that for distributors is a cool thing for more sales, etc. But a built-lan is only a problem for buyers in the future. Repair of built-in LAN (replacement of the CPU) will be significantly more expensive.

No mate. You are wrong. I sell such devices every day and I know precisely what customers demand. Low price is the key. You cannot have everything in such low cost device and you still don't understand it. If LAN port will damage by lighning - sorry, but it's not MT fault that they've used integrated ethernet controller in CPU. It's your fault. Because You didn't make the installation properly. And who does it properly? Few people maybe. The rest connects everything as it would be used indoor and bingo - that's it. I know how it looks from inside, so don't tell me I'm wrong.
"MT tries to make boards for everyone" OK, but I think here (RB711) too cut costs.
Cut costs too much? I don't think so. OK. Let it be $0.1 for DC in. One is cheap, but multiply it by hundred thousands of boards.

Again You don't get it. If this board will be $x.x cheaper than 411+radio card, then spend saved money on proper installation.

Ok you're selling me install and use.
And your customers what they wanted to be sure they buy the cheapest products Ubiquity.

I buy the products and expects MT smarter construction.

Even if the cost of plug on a million pieces was one million U.S. dollars to pay for the client and not make this free MT.

You see that you expect RB will cost a minimum I expected something else. and for example I am able to pay the $1-2 more.

I think that, with the release of this board, the Mikrotik solution costs about the same, or less, as a Ubiquiti bullet + panel antenna.

Mikrotik should demonstrate a more professional design.
In my opinion, LAN should be separate or be an additional lighting protection. If RB711 is dedicated outdoor POE powered CPE.

If someone does not agree with the RB711 is the ideal product for him.

With sites that needed lightning protection my old company used to run 5cm wide 4mm thick solid copper strap and mount a 3 prong copper hat on the pole. Why do you need dinky little lightning protection on a CPE when you wont ground it right or ground it enough to make any difference?

The RB711 is great for mounting in an antenna and chucking it up a pole for Outdoor CPE or a quick and dirty AP. If you want to use it indoor etc etc then maybe this product isnt for you?

I think the main idea here is to give good and logical feedback to MikroTik about this new product, so that these ideas might be taken into account in next iterations of this product.

Stop dream-walking - MT gave us new concept RB711, so in best case we can affect some details in board design, but it will still remain RB711.

I would personally like to see 2.4Ghz version and dual chain version of the board.

So you think that the integrated LAN is OK for outdoor solutions?.
I have no more questions.

Yes RB711 by the lack of DC JACK is not suitable for indoor applications.
The Surge protection does not work without the ground precisely. Therefore, Lan should be separate, because we know what it threatens.

What's separate lan going doing honestly? Have you seen the mess a direct hit to gear does? Any kind of protection would need the aim of not hitting your gear but something else. Anything you put on the RB is still going to blow the antenna/pole/whatever and require a site visit anyway. All "lightning protection" would do on a RB is push up the price and provide a false sense of security to those who don't understand how to do it right

Before a direct hit will not defend anything.
And that's not what is at stake.

Repair of an integrated LAN = processor replacement = much more $.

But OK if no one else has anything against.

HaQs, you got already a better product: RB411+R52Hn..
Why are you looking for a RB711? It's not your target!

Yepp, some people are tough... all these talks and 2 questions missing:
1. When are these boards shipped to be ready to install?
2. Someone knows the prices already?

Normis...

is possible the routerboard can have the signaling connector?

it like some wireless bridge, the having bnc connector, you can purchase a small bnc type signaling reader, connect to the radio and do the alignment with that tools..

we purchase most the RB433 is because when fit into the enclosure antenna, we use the Ether2 for the alignment, when alignment done, that will be standby port for the client.

Are there any chances to something like the RB711, but with a plastic case, RPSMA and DC jack?

Or something similar in price not much higer?

Ideal for indoor CPE.

I'm disappointed in the lack of dual chains. A low cost CPE may not need the speed of dual chains, but it would allow for an overall more efficient RF environment. There would be better signal and more clients could share the speed dual chains provides.

What antenna would you use to create a low cost dual chain CPE (if there was such a routerboard)?

I'm not sure as up until this product and the new NV2 I was only considering Ubiquiti for new wireless deployments. I haven't looked for low cost dual polarity antenna. Ubiquiti made their own, maybe Mikrotik should do the same?

I think the RB711 sounds like a hit for a low cost integrated CPE device.
If you need DC jack, lots of ethernet ports or MINIPCI slots, or a faster CPU go look elsewhere, there are many alternatives.

Does anybody know whether Poynting will launch a MMCX version of the Micropoynt integrated antenna?

Exactly. So $129 for a dual polarity antenna. Thats more than the routerboard and PoE put together. It's going to have to eventually happen, otherwise there will be way more 'other' cpes in use and Mikrotik will lose their edge. If you have to deploy 20 customers next week do you spend $89 or $300 each?

We have more than 10 new products coming this year, each will have their own. This is for the integrators, they simply love them. Demand is very high.
one of 10 new products has a AR7240+AR9285
In Atheros's web Introducing the AR9280,the single-chip(2.4/5 GHz)solution for PCIe inXSPAN's third generation of

products.
Support for 2×2 MIMO, but Mikrotik's not supprot 2×2 MIMO

AR7240+AR9285(2.4G)is Atheros's low cost 150M

I want to know why not Mikrotik make AR9280 2×2 MIMO?

Which one is the ACTUAL specification of RB711-5Hn-M ? Table on the right is taken from PDF brochure. Since when 400MHz is "H" ?

"H" refers to the wireless part
RB711 Cheaper version of RB411
R5Hn-M Integrated 802.11n with MMCX.

The R5Hn-M was retired from market because it had some problems (that's what our distributor said)
Are we going to expect same behaviour on this board?

I couldnt make this link using single polarity, but it works great with dual.
Obvious question, but did you try vertical and horizontal on both ends before ?

There's no reason Dual would be Great where *neither* worked.

I have seen terrain/bedrock/gold-in-them-thar-hills/whatever alter polarisation, but to get *nothing* before using Dual is new to me, especially if Dual is *good* on the same link.

Tell me more.

Yep. Lots.

1. Post the same question on the Google Earth forum.
2. Do not export to Google Earth
3. Export only to the Real Earth
4. Use Fuller's Earth for export

Repair of an integrated LAN = processor replacement = much more $.
Are they repairable? Because I have one, probably suffered from lightning damage, everything works fine, except LAN port is deaf. Happened after some lightning storm went by.

Re: NEW RB711

Thu Sep 16, 2010 3:59 pm

We have now installed our first batch of 100 off RB711 board based CPEs.
Integrated with a 19dBi antenna,
We are using:-
RB711-5Hn-MMCX
RoS 4.10 & 4.11
Passive PoE 24 VDC (UBNT Model UBI-POE-24_5)
Wireless Station mode WPA2
DHCP-Server, Ethernet side
DHCP-Client, Wireless side
Firewall-rules
NAT
DNS-(Client/Server mode)
NTP
SNMP, with dude monitoring
Queues, Giving QoS for VoIP
Routing (OSPF)

We use scripts to speed the configuration process.
So far 711s have proven 100% reliable, Total uptime, (sum of all uptime on all routers together) > 50,000 hours.
CPU usage and latency are always low.
Tip: doing a fast ping(every 20ms) with big packets to a local ip address (on the same router), gives a good indication of how well the router is handling itself.
We much Prefer the MMcX connector to UFL connector.
For CPE we only ever use PoE so never missed the DC socket.
We have a network with a large installed base of:
RB532, RB532A-r5, RB532C, RB112, RB133, RB133C, RB333, RB411, RB411AH, RB52, RB52H, SR5, XR5,
UBNT Wispstation, NANO 5/5M, Bullet (all types), NANO 2, Airgrid 5.

For us the RB711 is now our preferred CPE and outclasses all the above for customer CPE installations, cost V performance is Excellent (better than the old RB411/R52 combo).

I just hope the 9 new products are as thoroughly tested as the RB711.

Can you confirm whether or not there will be a 2GHz version of the 711? That would be very helpful to us as we are getting ready to put up a new site with R52Hn's and are going to be running on 2GHz.

i like mikrotik very much best of feautures and pricing, but none of the dealers & resellers in india don't give warranty for us..
we cant buy it from mikrotik directly because of high shipping charges,
why cant you provide rma for us directly , or else atleast provide the service manuals for 4xx and 7xx models for eth & no power issues causing mainly ..
It will definitely make the mikrotik reliable forever...

We in Czech Republic have problems with the last delivery rb711-5Hn. It is very bad tx signal. About 20 db worse than it should be. Is it a manufacturing defect?

Same here. The last series with unshielded LAN connector has often problems with signal. Also the mmcx connector wobbles a lot, while signal fluctuates by 10 or more dB when pushing the connector. Strange is that MMCX on other Mikrotik products(minipci) are still much better.

Hello I have the same problem as was posted by honzam. There is not only problem with RB711 but also with Groove. Tell us or your distributors which series were poor made. I don't want spend my precious time by packing RB's and sending them back!

While mikrotik will not make something like: 680-800Mhz CPU (40-50k pps real traff via bridge), 1G ethernet, 2 mini-PCI, plastik outdoor box - we are not interested in use mikrotik on p2p links.
2-6 years ago I was mikrotiks fan, but last 2 years I can`t say that.

With best regards for Mikrotik! and sorry for my bad engl.
