Life Span at the coast?

Wed Dec 15, 2010 6:31 am

Good day,

I am looking at the possibility of starting a wisp in a small town down on the coast, but every thing there rusts from the salt in the air?

How long will my mikrotik Routerboards last? and how can i stop them from rusting? I have seen a router board that was so rusted its not even a joke. ( i did find it lying on a mountain top) but still my point is it can rust and at the coast every thing rusts ALLOT faster?

Can i maybe spray the board with Q20 or some sort of liquid to help prevent the rusting. Cause they say the enclosures are weatherproof but i doubt that they are airtight?

Thanks

Using plastic antennas/outdoor cases would do the trick?
Salt doesn't affect PVC and the board is safe in there. We use Itelite PRABox and all pra antenas and they are sealed when closed.

So should i spray anything on the board before putting it into the enclosure?

U dont get like a block that absorbs moisture and that that i can put in the box. Like when u buy a pair of new shoes, it has those packets in them?

I was just thinking that might help.

I am virtually on the beach, and I don't do anything to the boards. I use a anti-seize compound and lubricant on the enclosure hardware, like screws and hinges. Some have been here three years and are still ok. Tape the antenna connections well!

We are at the coast as well, and we do not use any special treatment to the boards or the casings. We only use vulcanizing tape on N connectors (pigtail > cable > antenna) to prevent moisture to enter and that's it. These pra boxes are 100% dry.
