RB450 or RB750

If I want to take one WAN input and create 4 separate LAN's which product should I use they RB450 or the RB750?

They both have 5 ports, so either one will work. You may want to figure out what kind of throughput you're expecting, and compare the throughput tests for both devices on routerboard.com.

Personally I'd also advocate the 450 because it has a serial port, which is awesome when you screw something up and need a local console to get back into the router.

That is what you would think but isn't the rb750 more like a four port switch with a separate upload port?

Nope. It certainly has the ability to switch between ports if you want it to, but you can disable that and have 5 routed ports.

The RB450 also has switched ports, by the way. Same thing applies: you don't have to use them.

functionally they are both identical, as fewi says. the differences are the case, the serial port, the RouterOS license level (only matters if you will have more than 200 active users)
