routerBoard - which one? ...or routerOS?

Wed Dec 14, 2011 6:22 pm

Good evening,

I renewed the network in my society, we are 50/60 people.
We had 1 network (test servers and clients) with 2 gateways (2 internet connections), i decided to divide networks phisically, and put a mikrotik in the middle.

I installed routerOS over a virtual machine, vmware esxi, it has 4 Gigabit interfaces (2 trunks with firewall, 1 for Users lan and 1 for test servers). We use 100mbit internet connection.

It has really good troughput, but i don't like too much to have a router over a virtual machine.. it add a big point of failure to the network..

so i'm going to buy a phisical mikotik router. Now CPU is 2,4GHz, 2MB Ram, over the virtual machine, but i don't really understand how much CPU we are currently really using.. winbox says between 15% and 30%..

In this context, what routerBoard do you suggest?

Do i have to do 2400Mhz/3 -:- 2400Mhz/6 -> 400-:-800Mhz? ..So if i take the 680Mhz version it will be always between 66% and 100%? would it be enough?

So.. what routerboard do you suggest?

Thanks for patience

Yo can check mirkrotik's catalog, RB1200 seems to be one of the most robust routerboards
