RB1100AHx2 Memorygate

Wed Jan 25, 2012 1:29 pm

Hi,
one question about RB1100AH and RB1100AHx2 for the mikrotik project engineer...

WHY 47MByte in this router? HOW many different cost with 64MB ? RB450 have 512MB !!

is problematic to upgrade to 5.12

this is crazy!!

Best Regards

why does this matter? RouterOS runs fine on it, and for proxy cache you use the microSD.

not RAM! RAM is 2GB. please don't confuse RAM with anything else. Size of NAND doesn't matter. Use microSD for additional storage.

Yes I know perfecly what is RAM...
but I think a little NAND is a limitation... I remember RB532 with 128MB Nand and I'm not understand the 48Mb free in RB1100ahx2
I refuse this engineer idea...it's only my things..
Thanks for all, great job.... but increase nand storage!

can you explain why you need more NAND ? RouterOS doesn't use more. And for proxy and other things - you can use microSD.

I thought I knew what I was getting into but it appears there's either a software issue or 41MB is really way too small.

I was about to upgrade to the latest version but I cannot: I have RB1100AH running ROS5.13, (no user-manager or hotspot packages installed) nothing in the file list, 36.5 of 41.7MB used i.e. 12% free.

The disk space is so small I cannot even upgrade to 5.14 because all the packages will not fit! :(

Re: RB1100AHx2 Memorygate

RB1100 works fine but is discontinued, virtualization is the future, in my old system I had 3 rb450 2 rb450G, 1 rb750G and 1 PC.
thanks to rb1100 and metarouter could reduce number of equipment and have fewer points of failure, and improve the quality and availability of my service.

I don't understand why mikrotik is downgrading product line, RB750G it was discontinued, replace is RB750GL, with less memory, less processor, price difference is that justifies these changes?, in this cases there are not a technical impedimet, as other people say in other post "disappointing that, the biggest RB1100AHx2, not support virtualization....".
I buy it thinking that the core duo processor added benefits to RB1100, but never imagined I would have 10% of RAM of RB1100 and also will not support virtualization.

But there are something that I can understand, when I activate the load balancer that run in MetaRouter on my RB1100, amount's memory nand is not reduced, however RAM amount's is reduce, which explains that should not affect the amount of memory nand (of HDD), but there are another detail important on RB1100 hdd memory used is 57,3 MB, and on RB1100AHx2 hdd memory used is 22,3 MB, then definitely I think that probably if install 64 mb well be possible not lost this important function of this wonderfull router.
Dear Normis, me and a lot of people on the world use Mikrotik, and always I saw and learned too much reading your posts , but i I'm not agree with your simple answer when you say simply 'Metarouter is not supported on RB1100AHx2' becouse is the top product of Mikrotik and is not posible this, becouse on simple router board as rb450 this is possible.

thanks in advance

Normis, sorry, when I wrote the post I made the mistake of referring to as RAM, when realy is NAND, on RB1100 is 520,1 MB and in RB1100AHx2 is only 41,7 MB (is almost 10% from RB1100 and RB1100AHx2), I Would like if you can, read all post and tell me finaly why is not support metarouter RB1100AHx2, excuse my ignorance.

AHx2 is multicore, but Metarouter does not work on multicore systems.
Ok, if is not work why error reported when I try add metarouter is "not enough resources (6)", this only makes confusions and waste time, this is not clear explanation.

Just found this limitation oursleves. How to use The Dude like this?!

MikroTik, you have not announced the size of the flash and we assumed it was like 1100.

YOU HAVE LIED TO US !!!

We want to return this RB now so you can bang it against your heads.

I had this problem before with older models with small flash.

Before updating, try to uninstall any unused packages, reboot to complete the uninstall. See that there is at least 30 megs free space.
Then upload the separate packages and not the combined one, reboot to complete the update.

Then maybe update the bootloader.

Instructions with "try" and "maybe" usually don't work well when the router is 1500km away :) (especially since I need most of the packages in order to remotely access the system that controls the router)

I hope that Mikrotik will offer a better solution, like replace them with models with more flash. The whole situation is so mind boggling I would believe if someone explained that the manufacturer loaded wrong flash chips into the SMT machine :(

The flash is big enough for RouterOS and updating but not for using the packet sniffer or The Dude or anything else that may need more space.

MikroTik were wrong to not announce the size of the flash but it would bee too much a punishment for them to replace all the units.

As I said,

- Uninstall any unused packages (not disable), after the restart see that there are ~ 30MB free space. Go to Files and remove stuff.
- Upload the separate .npks from the .zip - system-5.14-ppc.npk security-5.14-ppc.npk advanced-tools-5.14-ppc.npk routerboard-5.14-ppc.npk ppp-5.14-ppc.npk dhcp-5.14-ppc.npk and anything else you are actually using.

- Then if there is a newer bootloader - update that as well.

If after this it didn't update - you are doing something wrong.

Worked.

I was unable to uninstall unused packages, when tried that, i got the message about system reboot because of kernel failure.
So I tried to just upload the used packages from the zip file and worked.

Mikrotik has made a mistake, or is it possible that the MANUFACTURER, how annoying this situation is, do not show their faces and recognize the error giving explanations, is easy say 'RB1100AHx2 metarouter does not support', I believe that if they had published it on datasheet, had not sold even a RB1100AHx2, most of which we fell into the trap that was because we read the datasheet which corresponded to a unit better than the RB1100, with the same technical characteristics, do not think I would have bought this router NAND memory that has less than a rb750, 47MB :o
