Need advice about a good SPF module for RB2011LS-IN

Wed Jun 06, 2012 1:42 am

In a really saturated RF tower, I need to connect the backhaul in the lower part with the upper sectorial RB's using optic fiber cable (40 meters).
No chance for ethernet or shielded solutions, I've tested a lot with very bad results.
I think that the new RB2011LS-IN is exactly what I need (inside alu-boxes) instead of any kind of optic to ethernet converter. I operate a 100% mikrotik network.

So, I need advice on:

1.- SFP module supported and/or recommended by Mikrotik for that routerboard.
2.- type/model of optical fiber cable for outdoor use.
3.- model of optic fiber connectors to buy for that hardware.

Thanking you for your expertise in this field, kind regards.

To chime in...

For gige connections we use Finisar SFPs Model: FTRJ-8519-1, these utilize 850nm lasers which are designed for Multimode cable type. These have a maximum range of 550m (1500+ Feet) Using 50/125 MM cable. (Try not to use 62.5/125 if you can) The above SFP modules only accept LC connectors (as most do).

1)See if the above SFP model is compatible with mikrotik (they should be - I've found they've worked in every sfp equipped device I've tried thus far.)

2) If your not comfortable with terminating your own cables, it is always best to purchase pre-made versions. (OSP) Of course you will need two strands within the cable - one for transmit and one for receive. Not simplex.

Hint Hint. Normis if you can read this: It would be nice if we had a mini-pci equipped Routerboard with SFP capabilities and screw down DC terminals.
