Making LCD useful.

Fri Jan 31, 2014 11:34 pm

So, how about a setting that displays a custom bmp image and only that? For ex. with our logo and contact number for tech support without any touch support. It would surely be better than disabling the LCD.

It could be a nice feature for CPE in business locations.
When we can expect that option?

I would like feature for displaying custom message. For example when netwatch triggers, router beeps and on display will be "Server xyz unavailable". Touch support already can be disabled (v 6.9).

I like that idea, but I would also want to have it scroll through multiple images.

A custom text field, that could be generated by a script - would be perfect :).

The bitmap is nice and we could at least to support some "ISP branding"

I support also the idea to put some "custom message" not just the bitmap. We have the LCD there but we cannot build value ontop of that, unless mikrotik will give us some access.

I would love to have some "dynamic" message capability. For example in a hotel:

-your breakfast is ready
-your taxi arrived

or...

- internet not available
- your public IPv4 is.....
- no IPv6 available
- wireless terminals connected...

we have scripts so we only need a "custom string" in the LCD menu, so that we can display that

Guys it's easy to implement, just give that to us!!!!! ;)

Seriously???? You put your equipment in guests rooms?
I suggest a flashing LCD message "Please don't steal me" for a start ;) ...

Please mark this question as a bug report under the post topic, I am very sure
that here in the forum someone was talking about those things but I am not really
sure that Mikrotik was also involved in this doings.

Guests can steal anything, anyway that was not the idea. It could be in any "common" place, even in a case with a window for the LCD. Moreover who cares if they steal it, it will be charged on their credit card...

that would be handy.
also personally i was welcome - ability to get unit info in more readable(at more serious ranges)health info of unit, ie temperatures, resources with bigger/tweakable font size.

Would it be possible to add option to turn the display by 180 degrees?

switching to "portrait" format would be handy also. not much for RM units, but for desktop usage, esp wall-mounted units ..
p.s.
yeah. several times per second or better - 360 degree !! thats would be jaw-dropping attractive in gear stores :P
new kind of "butterfly display", thanks to MEMS technology both for better viewangles and cooling of unit ;)

I consider to this and on top something like
- MRTG Graphing tool that is showing network throughput (24h, week, month or hour, day, week)
- network graphs for WAN / DMZ / LAN or what ever
- error messages
- active users
- failures

It could be used for all things peoples need, but to realise this,
scripting would be a really good choice owed to the circumstance
that RouterOS is a so called closed up system.

I just want to show my ISP's name on LCD... Currently I disable LCD, which is a waste ;) - don't let LCD be another OpenVPN ;)
