USB on CRS125-24G-15-2Hnd-IN / 2011UAS-2HnD / 751G-2HnD

Mon Mar 17, 2014 10:26 pm

Hello All.

I have a Samsung S4 smartphone with 3g chip. I have an 751G-2HnD Routerboard acting as Access Point in my office. When I plug my smartphone to 751G-2HnD, all works ok, the cellphone is detected w/ success. I go to thethering option and turn on the USB Anchorage, Mikrotik detect the lte0 interface, I put a DHCP client on this interface and the net is shared to devices using wi-fi or network cable.
Now, my torture starts in home. My 2011UAS-2HnD NEVER DETECTS the phone, and the reason I don't know. Simply the phone isn't detected (when I plug in 751G the phone appears connected as media share and when I go to the USB Anchor page, the option is enabled but inactive), and I can't share anything. Rebooting the device doesn't have any effect on this procedure. Now, I purchase a
CRS125-24G-15-2Hnd-IN to a small office and when I test this feature the same problem occurs. Mikrotik have changed anything from USB ports on 751 (that have a FULL USB PORT) to the other devices (that have the little usb cable to connect)? I don't believe that Mikrotik have developed a devices or creating ways to dificult the work!!!

Cheers.

You have all updated,

I never try my phone on RB2011.
If I can, I try tomorrow at office.
At home I have only RB493G

On RB2011 and CRS series boards USB devices may not work first time they are plugged in. Power cycle (not reboot) is needed.

The question is why? Have any good reason to that? If not, I consider it a bug!!!
On time, the problem occurs with my S4 even I do a complete power cycle on Routerboard. The phone isn't detected as media share and won't enable option to activate thethering.

Well, no answers... I believe that problem is to lock a resource that mikrotik team doesn't like to work in your devices.
I'll think better in a future when I waste my money with mk products with design problems / os problems / people-that-think-how-resources-i-can-use-in-MY-devices problems...

Sorry to bud in, but please just give it a little bit of time.

Your are doing something not many users here are doing that I know of, so there aren't a lot of people who can help troubleshoot the problem either. Also, take into account that you are using 2 routerboards which have different CPU chipsets thus could react differently. Although not desired it is to be expected sometimes.

It is odd that one routerboard does it correctly and the other does not. Are they running exactly the same firmware version AND routerboard firmware?

Also, have you tried a different USB cable from micro-USB to USB? It could well be that your cable is malfunctioning. Also try connecting the phone with an USB hub in between the port and the phone, preferably one that can use an external power adapter. It might be that the phone is trying too much power from the port.

Also, submit tickets and keep updating this problem. Find out the problem and help them fix it (open a ticket!), then report back to everyone else. Don't just come here and start shouting something doesn't work. If it doesn't work, that sucks, but rather help identify the problem with the people on the forum and mikrotik, fix it and everyone will be happy! :D
