How to check and upgrade POE firmware on 951Ui-2HnD?

Tue Apr 01, 2014 11:57 pm

The title says it all.

How to check and upgrade POE firmware on 951Ui-2HnD?

The normal interface/ethernet/poe/settings don't work on the 951Ui. As in there is no /settings in POE.

When you check under system/routerboard from winbox it shows POE FW ver 0 and if you click upgrade nothing seems to happen.

In this board the firmware is bundled with RouterOS, you can not upgrade.

Or better:
Upgrading RouterOS you also upgrade the firmware.
Downgrading RouterOS you also downgrade the firmware.

This is valid ONLY on RB951Ui-2HnD

Problem solved.

Thanks for the answer, is there anyway to view power being used by the POE out?

I have already tried that it only shows the status of the POE port. It doesn't show any details like the 750up or Omnitik poe output. The following is all the 951Ui shows.

[admin@MikroTik] /interface ethernet poe> monitor [find]
name: ether5-GW
poe-out-status: powered-on

Pretty limited and disappointing really. I have had issues with a few of these 951Ui not being able to supply power to other MT devices. The Red light will flash as if it is being overloaded or something but with no way to check the POE port stats it is impossible to troubleshoot the problem. Nothing wrong with the devices I am trying to power because they work just fine with a 750UP and or a standard POE supply. The units are also under the 500mA rating for the 951Ui.

What version of RouterOS you use?

The max power out for 951Ui-2HnD are 0,500W.

The board can be powered from 8V to 30V

Some hig power absorpition device can not be powered, like OmniTIK, BaseBox, QRT

For each voltage you have this max power absorption on out:
8V	4W
10V	5W
12V	6W	(as one Groove)
14V	7W
16V	8W
18V	9W	(as one SXT)
20V	10W
22V	11W
24V	12W	(as one SEXTANT or one Metal)
26V	13W
28V	14W
30V	15W

on 951Ui-2HnD and any other router with a small letter "i" in the name PoE-Out is limited. 750UP and Omnitik UPA has "P" that shows that it has extended capabilities of PoE-Out.

i = 500mA
P = 1A & monitoring functions

True?

Kind of true.

for "P":

you also can set individual power output limitations on ports that are not over 1A for port and not over 2.2A for all port power output summed up. Also, you can set port priorities, so, if power limit is reached what ports will be turned off first.

I have this setup (ROS 6.7):

Metal 5 on the roof powered from 750UP on the before floor connect to AP -> EoIP -> PPPoE Server
4th floor one 750UP powered from 750UP on the before floor + 2 x 951 as CPE for the client
3th floor one 750UP powered from 750UP on the before floor + 1 x 951 as CPE for the client
2th floor one 750UP powered from 750UP on the before floor + 3 x 951 as CPE for the client
1th floor one 750UP powered from 750UP on the before floor + 2 x 951 as CPE for the client
"earth" floor one 750UP powered 24V 2,5A + 2 x 951 as CPE for the client

the 951 are powered from the user apartment, not from 750UP (also for security if some user connect powered poe cable to pc....)

Incredibly, all this is working ininterruptly from 4 months....
