I plug USB WiFi WN722N(chipset AR9271)
Make restart.
It appears in reosurces->USB as 1:2 ATHEROS USB2.0 WLAN 12345 480Mbps.
But there is no interface in wlan interfaces (Just standart wlan0 for builtin wlan).

Please help me.

as I am right informed is MikroTik not supporting USB WLAN oder WiFi devices!
It can be might changing but as I know it, they don´t do so.

Exactly this is confusing me.
I've bought an adapter (WN722N), and despite the wiki says that it is supported, it is not working. The behaviour is the same as in the 1st post.
According internet resources, this chipset (AR9271) used to be working although on 54g mode in versions of ROS below 6.0.
Any newer version is not supporting this usb device anymore.
Why MT drop this devices, since thyey are cheap, and used to work in some manner?

Is it possible to downgrade only that package?
That way I should be able to backport the usb support.
MT should take into consideration the fact that usb wifi dongles ususaly are much cheaper than the minipci, and could be more versatile (using on laptos, desktops if neccesarry).
Even being not so reliable, it is the users' choice to try it out. After all there're a lot minipci cards, that are as much problematic as this one-and-only usb chipset 9271.

I use rb751U-2HnD. ROS 6.15 wih latest firmware for that board: ar7240_3.13.fwf (see attachement)

This can rally be, because MikroTik is only supporting the entire "Atheros chip set"
and not the whole device! And in normal as I am right informed, only x_86 devices
sorted with RouterOS are able to run them (USB WLAN apadters) if @honzam get it
working on a RouterBoard this might be not a guaranty for your self that it must be
running also at your RouterBoard!

I've just installed ROS 5.26. So far so good-it works. I'm having some dificulties with the configuration, wchich are not problematic because of the usb adapter.
The thing I noticed is the usb adapter is getting too hot, while using it. I tried to decrease the txpower, but I'm about to evaluate that.

UPDATE 20.7.2014:

Ok it's working! I had to simplify the settings and not to toush the sensitive ones.
It can't reach some dramaticly high speeds but for me is more than welcome (6$ USB device instead 60$ for a minipci)!

I'll keep testing.....

Hi, I have similar problem with Alpha AWUS036NHA USB card (on the HCL):

I works out of the box on my RB2011UAS-2HnD running 6.16, but on the RB751U-2HnD does not show up.
751 was originally running 6.13, so I've upgraded it to 6.20 but the card did not showed up.

Since both routers are running the same software ( both are mipsbe) my guess is maybe there is difference between power on the USB port ?

Update:

I've upgraded the firmware from 2.7x (original) to 3.17, and now the card is recognized in the list of USB devices.
It even occasionally shows up in the list of interfaces, but when I scan for wlans, it does not finds anything.

Same card works without a glitch on the 2011 router.

I'll try to find an powered USB hub to see if that will help, since adding better power (19V 3.42 A) to RB751 did not helped.
Occasionally when USB card is plugged in it knocks out integrated wifi, or reboots the router - I'm guessing that the internal 5v line is overloaded.

Update 2:

Powered USB hub did not quite worked: MT did not reboot, but the card did not showed up in the devices, while it was listed under USB devices ...

Just downgrade the MT OS to 5.26 and you well be able to start the Alfa. I used tplink 722n and it is working but can not get more than 1mbs. Also the link is working only when no encryption is enabled. Read the whole topic.

Just downgraded, and it worked like a charm!
