Devide CRS226

Sat Jul 05, 2014 5:51 am

i want to use the CRS226-24G-2S+ to replace a bunch of small Switches in our location, and at customer sites,

a sample config could look like below

group1
6 ports (2-7) with DHCP 192.168.250.0 and routing to a main line like 192.168.5.1 (that is connected on port1)

group2
6 ports (8-13) no DHCP 10.0.7.1 + 10.0.6.1 with routing to main line 192.168.5.1

group 3
4 ports 14-17 no routing (

group 4
4 Ports 18-21 no routing

group 5
3 ports 22-24

sfp2 should be working as a switch with port1 to make a connection to our second location

if any possible, we would not like to use vlans, (to keep the config on the attached devices easy and simple), thats the main reason why we are considering this kind of switch instead of a standard switch with vlan config

is a config like this possible, and how would it look like?

regards

Ingo

It is possible without problems.
Just define a master port for each group (meaning slave set to none) and assign freely the other needed ports as slaves.

In your case:
ether1 - master
sfp2 - slave to ether1

ether2 - master
ether3-7 slaves to ether2

ether8 - master
ether9-17 slaves to ether8

ether18 - master
ether19-21 slaves to ether18

ether22 - master
ether23-24 slaves to ether22

Just don't try to attempt routing between the groups using the CRS and expect carrier grade performances...

Hi Marius,

this is exactly what i expected (hoped), found the slave setting in interfaces... that was the part that i was missing...

the lack of routing (loosing speed) causes that i do not have sufficiant amount of ports...

question to mikrotik staff members: the routing was exactly one of the reasons to look at this device, i found several threads that this is slowing down the performance extreamly, is there a fix planed for this issue? and if so, when can it be expected.

regards

Ingo, the CRS was never meant to be used as a router.
It is a high performance switch with the router part, i assume, just for administrative or maybe backup purpose.
So you can have decent firewalls, secured tunnels, NAT and routing and other fancy stuff, but as I said, for administering the device, not as a powerful router.

And Mikrotik never advertized this series as routers, they clearly stated these are switches...
So the fix for this is to add a more powerful router as a second device, like a RB1100AHx2 or a CCR.

Even more strangely, the switch chip seems to need some CPU support, since the load on my CRS125 is around 7% in idle, with networking taking most of it, even without any routing active (this could be another reason why there is a router attached to it).

BTW: Why did you decrease my Karma? Did I do something wrong?
