CCR hotspot performance

Mon Jul 07, 2014 2:58 pm

Does anyone have experience running a CCR for medium heavy hotspot usage?
  • around 400 concurrent users - consuming 100Mb/s bandwidth
  • Simple Login (common passcode) - No UserManager or external Radius
  • Rate limiting per user
  • Firewall filters for P2P
  • a few (20-30) firewall rules for blocking IPs and setting passthrough addresses
I have searched the forum with mixed responses coming up.
There is a feeling that CCR multiprocessing is not optimized for Hotspot trafffic (ie hotspot traffic processing will not be handled evenly across cores). Is that the case?

And the real question is for that kind of scenario which would be preferable ?
1 x CCR1036 or
2 x RB1100AHx2

i'am using RB1100AHX2 for around 1000 concurrent users, with firewall rules and limiting per user. The performance of the router is good.

we got a CCR1036-12G-4S for hotspot/gateway and the CPU usage maximum 3%.

more than 1000 Firewall filter rules
500 NAT
walled garden
DHCP server
800 Queues
95 Tunnels EoIP
about 800 clients for a total of 100Mbps/s

All that for 3%? That's very impressive.
