RB912UAG keeps crashing. Voltage too low?

Wed Jul 23, 2014 4:26 pm

Hello!

I have 2 RB912UAG-2HPnD mounted in the car. One is working OK, but the other one is crashing all the time. Since the car is 2000km away, I can't simply change the router and try a new one. I will in the end, if I need to, but I would rather try anything else before:)

So, I have a RB912UAG-2HPnD mounted in the car and powered. Health monitor says there is 9,4V on DC input. Could such a low voltage be the case for router crashing all the time?
On the other hand, the stable router has even lower voltage(9,3V) and is rock solid...

Router is crashing every 1-2m, usually if I'm doing something on it:
- making backup
- running Btest
- connecting to OpenVPN
.
.
.

If not remember wrong such models want from 8 to 30V, but if your car instead of 13,8V provide 9,3V probably do not have needed Amphere...

Ugh yes, 8V probably because of the voltage regulator, which has a drop of 2V...

I'm not sure how everything is wired in the car, since it wasn't my doing, but all other equipment is working fine (computers, cameras, GPS,...), so I think Amperage shouldn't be a problem.

I guess it might be a faulty RB card.

Take a low voltage drop regulator. Heck, even a zener diode of 12V, 3W should do the trick. Basic electronics.

Why do you need a voltage regulator for the router? It accepts the cars power supply readily and has an internal regulator anyway. Driving a device at the low end of its power supply voltage is not a very good idea.

exactly, either it is 12V or 24V car either of these are good for the router. and AFAIK even change that from battery (~10V lows and ~14V charging) would be fine.
