Creating a stacking type setup would be great when MT doesn't sell the configuration you want. N heads for redundancy, run a cable from a 1036-2S+ (or whatever they are) to a CRS226 to a couple 1016-12S, to another 1036-2S+. Either of the 2S+ boxes could be accessed for management with the configurations propagating in real time. The ones in the middle are just slaves to the others. Fire up Winbox and see 72 Ethernet ports at your disposal. You just patch one to the next via dedicated stacking ports. Something that would have the capacity to pass it all through. Could have the cables in different lengths (1U, 2U, 3U, 4U, etc.)
The stacking cable would either be something proprietary or something like Infiniband, having tremendous speeds available. With current (or announced) products, you can't effectively be doing GigE and 10GigE with several peers.
