Cat 4 LTE/3G Mini PCIe card compatibility for RB912UAG-2HPnD

Sun Sep 07, 2014 2:56 am

Hi Folks,

I am building a Cat 4 LTE with 3G fallback RB912UAG-2HPnD based router for a rural backup connection in New Zealand. (Bands 1,2,3,5,8,(28 soon))

Can anyone suggest any Cat 4 - 150D/50U or above cards known to work in the RB912UAG-2HPnD?
Has anyone used the ones below or suggest anything better?

LTE/3G cards:
Cat 4 cards that will do LTE band 3 (band 28 would be nice) and quad or penta band UMTS bands 1,2,5,8:
UBlox:
Data Only http://www.u-blox.com/en/wireless-modul ... odule.html
Data and Voice http://www.u-blox.com/en/wireless-modul ... eries.html
Intel:
Intel xmm7160 http://www.4gltemall.com/intel-xmm-7160 ... odule.html

Cat 3 cards that will do LTE band 3 (band 28 would be nice) and quad or penta band UMTS bands 1,2,5,8:
Sierra:

I have approached Mikrotik on this as well and no joy.

Can it really be true that no one has managed to get Cat 4 LTE working on a RouterBoard yet?

May I ask why you can't use a Sierra Wireless or Huawei mPCIe LTE card that is known to work already?

Thanks for your reply Roger,

Are they Cat4? I was under the impression that they were Cat3...

Yep, you're right sorry. Cat 3. The question is though will you be able to get 150mbps down?
Even with Telstra 4G across the ditch I can't get anywhere near that speed.

I'd just go for a Sierra Wireless modem that is proven to work and is very stable.

Understood,

NZ does have a very good mobile network. I have a tower within 3K Line of Site due to light up with band 3 and 28 shortly. This sort of performance would not be unlikely at all.

Anyone got access to any Cat 4 or even the new global multi-band Cat 6 Intel xmm 7260 or Qualcomm MDM9x35 based PCIe cards for testing?

It is the way forward, it would be nice to see Mikrotik get a jump here. Save us from buying Hauwei "half a job" B3000s with Cat 4 no band 28 and 100Mb LAN ports...

Ublox have been kindly given me an engineering sample of their new Cat 4 LTE MPCIe card.

Would anyone with an RB 912 in the Auckland New Zealand region like to have a go at testing this with a view to getting it on the Mikrotik hardware compatibility list?

Please, do you have any news about using UBlox LTE MPCIe card?
