crs125-24g-1s Performance more than 200Mbps NAT/Masquerade?

Wed Oct 01, 2014 10:51 pm

I've got a few of these and very simple NAT setup, all switched, no bridge-default.

The most I can get through it TCP is about 180Mbps down and 110Mbps up.

Is this normal for this single core routerboard?

You are using it as router but it is a switch mainly.

Looking that this particular CCR has the same CPU as the RB2011 and thus it's capabilities will be somewhat the same. So getting about ~200Mbit using NAT and some firewall rules seems about right.

You are not having a problem. But, as said above, this product is meant as a switch and the included CPU is included as a management CPU with 'some' routing capabilities if you need it. With that said I have also used the CRS125 at places I needed more ports and would have otherwise chosen a RB2011 and they work just fine. Performance seems a little bit slower by maybe 10% to 15% but I don't have anything to quantify that with.

Mind you, the CRS125 is an exception, the CRS226 for instance has a much slower CPU.

Just fore completeness: I find a 8-9% CPU usage on my CRS-125 in idle (only winbox login, no routing). A 750 uses some 0-1% in the same conditions. Profiler shows 1% ethernet, 4% networking, 2.5% unclassified. Totally, leaves some 92% of the CPU available...
Maybe the fact that there is a LCD screen which uses monitoring/updating or that accessing the switch chip may be more CPU intensive has something to say here.
