Wireless for Home and Office
- Dual Band 802.11ac AP with 802.3af/at in and "Enterprise" AP appearance
"AP" meaning for me 10x gigabit ports with at least 1 PoE out, besides in

"Enterprise AP appearance" meaning for me desktop unit with internal power supply

Basic cpu power at least equal to RB3011

Hardware encryption mandatory

Translation: improve the RB3011

Re: NEW PRODUCTS WISHLIST 2015

Since this topic is starting to get replies, my thoughts on the topic

Wireless for Home and Office:
- Dual Radio 802.11ac AP with "Enterprise" AP appearance
- MU-MIMO wave2 AC would be very much appreciated
- More then Triple chain would also be beneficial (min 2x2 for 2.4Ghz, 3x3 preferred) (min 3x3 for 5Ghz AC, 4x4 preferred if wave2 device)
- 1x Gigabit with Passive POE and 802.3af/at in
- To make it extra nice, an Extra Gigabit port with POE out to daisy chain another AP
- $150 price point

I see a real need for these. Currently we deploy Ubiquiti Unifi for these cases, but they certainly aren't perfect and the noise issue is a real problem. The hAP AC is a good step towards this, just less port and a different form factor so that attaching it to a wall or ceiling doesn't look totally odd. ;)

An AP does not need 10 Gigabit ports... 1x Gigabit is enough

- Minimum 8 port CRS with POE out on all ports (12 ports would be nice)
- Selectable 12v/24v/48v Passive POE out and 802.3af/at POE per port (250w / 300w total?)
- 9nth (13nth) SFP+ 10Gbit ports for DAC cables or SFP+ module
- 2x SFP+ Would be awesome if it doesn't come at a too big of a price premium
- CPU does not need to be very powerful
- Enough power to do VLAN (un)tagging and bridging at least at 2 Gigabit or more
- Internal power supply would be preferred. Dual for a premium model?
- Rackmount and desktop mount
- Basically a CRS226 with POE out on at least 8 ports ;)
- $375 price point

I see a need for these kind of "edge" switch in wireless deploys (both tower and home/office). I don't like using passive POE for everything and would like a solution to which I could could hook up my Access-Points and if needed some camera's or phones. If you connect 5x or 6x AC access-points you want something bigger then 1Gbit as the uplink

I don't know if the other poster really meant AP or wireless router instead.

I don't need an AP. I need a 10-port wireless router with simultaneous bands.

2 different wishes.

This equation is not valid. There are wireless routers equipped with L3 so they are definitely not APs.

We don't have so many wireless devices that are L3, and those are clearly marketed as CPE only. We don't have any AP devices that can't function as routers

It might technically be a router, but if it has only 1 network port, for me it's just an AP (even if the port could also be used to hook up a client).

I guess people who only use WiFi clients have no problem in thinking of them as routers.

I would like to see some CRS Modells with 8,12 or even 16 10G SFP+ ports in 19" case for rack mounting.
They do not need heavy routing features, they would be useful as a top of rack switch.

I Would like to see a Routerboard with integrated Dual band dual chain radios + at least one Mini-PCI-E expansion slot.

This will be something to replace Ubiquity UAP Pro and UAP AC .
It will have the ability to serve both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz simultaneously as well being able to add one more additional 2.4ghz radio such as R11e-2HnD

I have a RB951G-2HnD and it's almost perfect for what I'd like to use it for. With the following modifications/additions it'd be perfect:

- Additional 5Ghz radio (it only has 2,4Ghz)
- 1 POE-out capable port instead of POE-in
- Slightly -even- thinner case (it's just a tad too thick to fit nicely in my laptop bag among other stuff I have in there)

If it had those modifications, it'd be perfect as a little portable troubleshooting/analysing device. I already call it my little networking swiss knife. :D

I wish there would be a small router with a little bit more than 128MB RAM (Like RB2011, but with 512MB instead of just 128). Also, a device with just one switch and 10 Ports (instead of 2 switches with 5 ports each) would be great. Connection from switch to CPU should be upgraded.

Well...
I would like an al-in-one device that could replace the ISP cpe,
now that many network operators move to an all-ip telephony.
Situation:
The major/National telekom here moves to an all ip telephony solution.
Same as DT and co in North Europe.
For residential/small bussiness connections with a single IP,
having the isp modem bridged ain't an option since it has to do the sip registration itself,
and having a second box running an ip pbx ain't practical/cost-effective.
Currently using the provided cpe (usually unstable, definately not configurable) is one option,
the only other beeing the Fritz!boxes which are decent (for residential use) but rather expensive,
and also not that configurable (comparing to RouterOS that is).

Other than the above there are some really nice but prohibitelly expensive ciscos (88xVA-V),
or we roll-our-own-box/distro solution (not practical).

My ideal device would have:

>4-5 eth ports
a switch chip
A/V-DSL modem annex A/B with vectoring support intergrated (preferably broadcom, could be an add-on module?).
>2 fxs ports (possibly as add-on modules similar as many voip cards)
A routerOS package with at least basic IP/sip telephony support
IGMP snooping/multiple pvc for iptv stb
Passive cooling
RB450 to 850 class cpu or better, fast path would be nice
>128 Mb ram, preferably 512.
RTC
Wireless would be nice
Rack-mount option would be nice too...

Recently i paid close to 300€ for my Fritz.
I would be happy to pay something more to mtik if it had a comparable box available.

I would like to see dual 24 to 60V DC power supplies for the CCRs.

The last two CCRs I got had the secondary 24v port removed.

It should be with an SFP module, so that it would be possible to support FTTH, G.fast, and DOCSIS subscriptions.

Do the different operators really use a standard for their digital telephony offers?

Then it's a question of when there will exist really good OTT TV services.

SFP would be a plus offc, and future-proof too,
but it will probably up the bom if someone expects to route in wire speed.
In my case fiber is non-existent outside corporate use, and corporations usually go for the big brands.
For residential use, all providers use ADSL or VDSL over copper.
Up to 50Mbps now, up to 100Mbps later when vectoring comes into play.
Residential Digital telephony they do sip terminating at cpe, QoS via dscp, connecting at ims upstream.
iptv they do via a discrete pvc, QoS i think dscp too (not really sure on this though...).
As far as I know, all alternative ISPs here follow the above scheme cause they rent telekom's network,
so the infrastructure is in place.
Its pretty much the same thing DT does really.
I'm on the pilot program now and waiting to be connected to test things a bit.
The plan is to only provide all-ip telephony on new connections/contracts,
and (infrastructure permitting) convert most of the current pstn/isdn connections within 2-3 years.
I expect that it will create a market for suitable cpes given that it is happening simultaneously in half the EU.
I myself was looking for a suitable replacement, and found out that the options available are very limited.
Until now we managed by putting the cpe in bridge mode and using a real router downstream,
now that cip registration happens in the cpe it can't be done.

OTT content is getting there :)

10Gb in switch, of course. 1Gbps routing performance is fine, so it should also have an SFP.

So people can uplink via SFP, GBase-T, or the 10Gb ports, depending on the situation.

1000/1000 for the consumer is here.

Base Station and CPE with 802.11ac wave2 full support!

Improvement of wireless performance from the point of view of:
- sync(GPS)
- TDMA
- auto channel selection (base not only on information available on AP but also taking in decision the info from CPE (like spectrum usage) (like Mimosa promise)
- Better signal processing in noised environment.

Complete professional Base Station with integrated antenna matrix ptimized for 3x3 and 4x4 Mu-Mumo and beamforming and SFP port.

Management tool like Unifi Controller, Ruckus Controller, etc.

I need to upgrade my home network. I would like one device with the following:

- Triple band MU-MIMO + XStream
- At least 2Gbps 512-byte NAT symmetric routing (2+2) with a few dozen rules and LAN ports in bridge
- Hardware crypto
- SFP+ WAN
- 3x SFP+ LAN ports in switch wirespeed
- 10x GBaseT LAN ports in switch wirespeed, stacked
- PoE output on some GBaseT ports
- Usual Mikrotik touchscreen
- Full size USB 3.0 port
- Netinstall port with cable included
- Integrated power supply
- Compact desktop unit + rack ears (folded antennas are usable)
- Fanless (dealbreaker)

As I think the first requirement is in conflict with the 10G requirements regarding the chips available or soon to be available, a single 5GHz MU-MIMO band will be acceptable and I will continue using my current dual band access point for n. Triple band without XStream would be a better compromise, so that I can get rid of the current access point.

It does not need to be too cheap, but not overly expensive for power home use either.

If it could run Suricata at that WAN speed for 1K$ it would be awesome.

all-in-one box for branch offices:
- CRS 24x1G with enough CPU to be able to do routing+firewalling+IPSec at 100+ Mbps
- PoE out on all ports (with a global PoE out budget of at least 80W)
- LACP+RSTP !
- rack mount so no wireless needed

If this was 802.3af/at it would be perfect!

We would happily pay $400-500 USD each for a CRS of these specs.

Paired with dual band AP and capsman these would be the perfect setup for branch office deployments. Enough ports for a branch, POE for AP'S/phones/cameras and enough cpu for routing to the WAN or a VPN to head office.

After working briefly working with a CRS last week , really I see it as a huge opportunity missed.Lack of full 24 port POE,MSTP,LLDP,limited SFP Ports and other commonplace protocols/standards that I can find on a cheapo netgear
switch are missing.

It's a shame because the Mikrotik gear works awesome with industry standard tools like rancid + puppet to help backup and automate tasks and I would love to throw out all that Dell/Netgear/HP garbage I have to deal with.

hEX-alike (exterior, case, color, number of interfaces, etc. except more powerful power adapter) home router on RB3011 processor.
would be fun and helpful to use at home something like that.
versions with and without wifi would be handy(prefer one without and separated AP, in personal use and work), especially model with low-power WiFi internal antenna.
in case of termal issues - it can be downclocked "by default" from 10% to 30%, compared to RB3011, depend choosen heatsink to fit hEX case/package safely.

CCR1009 replacement with 8-core ARM SoC/CPU. (inexpensive, still relatively cold but Very powerful, yet)

and based on quad-core ARM SoC to replace 850Gx2 and 1200/1100 stocks. (good balance/tradeoff of power/price/consumption)
