Wisp Design / Scalability

Tue Mar 01, 2016 5:07 pm

We are where many a WISP has come, or is on their way to. We are expanding, and we need better control over our customer base / network. We run a fully deployed OSPF network, and we are looking at introducing Public IP’s to each of our customers. This is of course a major design overhaul, therefor I would like to have your input as to what you believe the best practise is. I have read of PPPoE, MPLS/VPLS, and the likes. I would like to have centralised management, and have as little config as possible on the highsite . Reason is I am the only network administrator, and the less complicated it can be for the fellow employees, regarding replacement etc, the better. I want to state however that I don’t want to compromise on efficiency and sustainability by cutting corners. We are at the 2500 client mark now, so I am obviously looking at a long term implementation that could carry us up to 10 000, or until I die, whichever comes first...
