Wifi signal distribution

Sun Mar 20, 2016 11:15 am

Hello,

I would like / have to interconnect an apartment with a building. The only possibility for me is to use an existing balcony for the airfiber installation at the apartment. Of course I want to keep the rest of the neighbors happy, i.e. the wifi signal shouldn´t reach their apartments at all. So, in general wifi signal breaks at corners and therefore would go "everywhere", but what about the directed airfiber antennas? Will the wifi signal stay within the given (doted) path or will my neighbors complain about headaches as soon as they can see the antenna?

Your neighbors will always be able to see your signal. The question is how strong it will be. You can try not to transmit any ssid for your link so they will not know easily that it is you...
... Or use fake name if you need to use ssid from some reason.

Hmm Airfiber questions on MT forums :D

Your neigbors will NOT 'see' the wireless network, as the protocol used is proprietary. The signal WILL be measurable in their home as the signal will not stay in a small path. It's not a laser you know

Get yourself 2x rb951's or something and install one in each apartment.

Then connect then to your router with cat5

Then you can set up speed queues, firewalls ect.
