How to set a correct TX-power for 5Ghz?

Mon Jul 18, 2016 1:07 pm

Tried to set a correct tx-power. I read that Tx/Rx Signal Strength should be between -60...-70 for best perfomance. I tried to change a value to different with "all rates fixed" and I see that SNR drops down, but Tx/Rx Signal Strength not. It is still ~ -55dBm.

Set the regulatory domain, your country and right antenna gain. Then play with antenna gain value to fine tune the result.

Anyway 55db is good number if other values corresponds... What problem are you trying to solve?

How to set right antenna gain? I have a hAP AC and there is zero value now. I tried to setup config for maximum performance, stability and coverage.

Looks like it does not help - #7 . Antenna gain does not affect on Tx/Rx Signal Strength. It is still -55-57dBm. So there is no way to reduce tx-power for 5Ghz?

It does for sure.
You just need to have regulatory domain, your country and gain value set on wireless tab. on Tx power tab should be "default" mode.

Then, changing the gain value changes the tx power.

It cannot have any impact on the rx power, but you can regulate it on the second side as tx power in the same way.

I see. Thanks. But connection speed is 1300Mbit\s very rarely. I tried to change channels, increase antenna gain, etc. But most of time I see only 878Mbit\s (and it drops down when I test connection with iperf). It is possible to increase connection speed and make it more stable?

And what you did with the opposite side? What you did against the noise comming at such wide frequency range from everywhere around? Wifi connection is not just about the Ap.

I use just a macbook pro 2015. It support 1300 AC. For example look at this: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=53703
