PTMP Sector thrughput

Mon Nov 21, 2016 5:56 pm

Good day all

We have a RB Metal with sector connected and about 66 clients connected to that sector.
All connections are below -60 and the radio is setup on 5ghz- only-n and nv2 clients regestration show about 80% ccq and shows 144/144 the links looks fine but the problem is the clients have almost half there account speed and almost never go more than 2mbps.

Is it because i have to many clients connected to one radio. Because when there is almost no data going thrugh the sector the client we test from still have the same issue. (About 2mbps)

When we test from more than one client we have a lot of date on that sector but not one client get what his limit is set to. Highest i have seen is about 15mbps.

We also did a direct test without pppoe connection and its the same result.

Any idees?

Thank you

Hi,

I would say 66 clients is way too much.

From my own tests I have observed that if you start adding 25-30 clients on one AP the performance starts tanking.

This is my biggest issue. Tower space and spectrum is running out.

Also a magical speed limit of 12Mbps sometimes appears.

Add 2 or 3 extra sectors and start speading the clients out a bit

Maybe try these bad boys

I haven't tested any myself yet, but you can fit 4 of 5 of these in the space one airmax sector takes up

You could also try to use nstreme until you install one more sector. It runs better in my case.

@InoX We did try changing it to nv2 nstream but the results was the same as without the nstream.

We are on our way to add one more sector now just to start splitting the clients we only have one more sector and radio in stock but we did order some and should arrive tomorrow

Ill let you guys know.

@p3rad0x The dbi's on the Symmetrical Horn's are a bit low and it looks so small do you think it will do the job. (clients connecting with SXT lite 5's max 2km)

Hi, 2km with clear line of sight should work fine on the horn antennas

I will test one of these in the coming weeks

Go with the symmetrical horn antennas, i have replaced one 60 degree airmax ac sector with two symmetrical 30 degree horns and they are working excellent. also in lesser space than airmax sectors you get double client capacity as u distribute the load. only thing catch is you cannot use your basebox/netbox instead you will have to purchase cards and install them in the enclosures. for ubnt products they have casing but for mikrotik only cards can be used.

The horns have different (round) antennapatterns. So if they are better depends on how your cpes are distributed. The ubnt ac antennas have very small vertical patterns. You have to align them very exact. Then you have higher gain.
