RBSXT random reboots

Wed Mar 14, 2012 10:46 pm

Hi I'm new here and new to MT products. I'm looking for some help please.

I've set up a point to point link between two RBSXT's over 1.8KM, but I'm having issue with one SXT randomly rebooting and I'm stumped to what the cause might be.

It was rebooting on Ros 5.12 then I upgraded to 5.14 but problem still persists. When I check the log after the reboot, I see message: Router was rebooted without proper shutdown (cause 1).

Anyone know what this means or can point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you.

How would I know that? I tried the ac adaptors on various plug points, still same issue.

I would change device and put it to test somewhere else and see is problem connected to device or to a cabling.
Or you can change device and cabling.

How long is your cable to the device?
And what do you use: UTP, STP, FTP...

I only have these devices, so I can't change short of going and buy a new SXT. What I have noticed though, it's is only when it's actually connected and registered that it would reboot. I still need to do some aligning, as I'm getting about -71 signal strength and 70-80% CCQ. The AP SXT is connected via 20m utp and the constantly rebooting client SXT is connected via 15m utp from the same roll.

Also worth noting maybe, the rebooting SXT is an older RBSXT-5D and the AP is a brand new RBSXT-5HnD

Doesn't matter that SXT's are not matching, rebooting is caused locally...

One idea:
Try to crimp RJ-45 connectors once again on both end of problematic device.

Several times I had problem that tester show OK crimping and Mikrotik still doesn't work.
So if you test your cable that still doesn't mean it's relaible and start with that.

Second idea:
If that doesn't help change SXT's between them and see on what side you get problem.
- problem is on the same side - cabling or power
- problem is on the new side - device

When you determine what part cause your problem you can continue detecting what it is.

Thanks for the help. I did switch the client and ap functions around yesterday and disabled nstreme and tried nv2 instead. Its much more stable with nv2 protocol. It only rebooted once in 3 hours, where with nstreme it rebooted every 5 - 10 minutes.

So:
You had a device SXT XY that rebooted constantly
Now you switch AP and XY.
And XY still reboot?

That can exclude cabling and now put focus on device.

Maybe someone with more expirience can see some reason.
Meanwhile you can paste configuration here, although I don't see how that can reboot device.

We talking about reboot device, and not losing link between them, right?

I have not physically switch them around, just there functions, ap became client and vice versa. And yes, a complete reboot. I get kicked out of winbox stating routed disconected. Checking the log after the restart, th log will also state that it rebooted without proper shutdown. Changing the wireless protocol changed stability ten fold, almost sure its a software issue. Will post configs later.

I ment on physically switching to determine what part cause a problem as I suggest above.

Sorry if you have already mentioned this because I didn't read through the entire thread, but make sure you upgraded your firmware also.

There was an issue with some of the older firmware with 711 boards causing random reboots. Not sure if the SXT is based off the 711 but make sure you are running the newest firmware with the 5.14 release.
