Universal Wireless Repeater Mode

Sat Nov 17, 2007 11:55 am

hi

I would like to know if i can configure my MT box as a wireless repeater (of a main Gateway) with a single radio card.

I can do it with EZ series APs but couldnt find how to do it in MT.

Thanks a lot

since no one replied i can be more specific..

In EZ series APs, you can run the AP in client mode and also it can repeat the AP where it is connected to..

Any opinions on mikrotik to achieve it ?

in WDS case, i ll need 2 radios for each BS. 1 for retrieving the backbone 1 for AP mode.

In this case, you only need a single radio.

I have seen the so-called "Universal Wireless Repeater Mode" on some CPE devices, it's really just WDS with a funny name.

sure you can; as i said universal repeaters are nothing but WDS radios, that universal repeaters you use also have one radio and serving you as you asked.

What I think the topic starter is searching for in Universal Wireless Repeater Mode is:

MikroTik Routerboard connecting to a wireless internet hotspot (WiFi from hotel or campingsite)
while
Your own devices can make wireless connection to the MicroTik Routerboard behind NAT

and this on 1 MicroTik Routerboard router with 1 radio only.

I have been looking for it as well, but haven't been able to get this working.
