Mikrotik Wireless Controller

Thu Feb 21, 2013 9:03 am

Ta da http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Wi ... Controller

Awesome new "Enterprise" feature Mikrotik :)

If this works well we can stop selling hundreds of AP's from other vendors each year.

Sounds similar to
Fortinet wireless controller and ubiquiti unifi

This is great ;-)

Trust me, this is MUCH better than what the Ubiquiti Uni-Fi's do.

This is closer to what AeroHive, Ruckus, Fortinet and Motorola do.

Not yet anyway. It's not in v6rc12 that's for sure. Also, be careful to compare this against the likes of Ruckus! "Apples and Pears"

As would we! I was very disheartened to download 6.12 pre-release and find it not in there after my email from Sergejs
it will work on any licensed RouterOS, follow documentation for the new features.

Regards,
Sergejs
I suppose I should of checked first before wooping round the office that its launched!

If this could compare to meru controller, we have a new world in outdoor wifi hotspots. No config, just plugin a device, and it is working.

Haha, I still can't believe Mikrotik didn't mention this sooner (maybe saving this for Croatia MUM?). IMO this is huge for them.

Wireless IPS to detect rogue access points across a fleet of APs like Sonicwall does would be a nice feature.

Is any progress in developing WLC functions? We starting new project with wi-fi roaming, and choosing what hardware we will use in this area. Can You tell me when we can test it?

Thank You for great devices!

Anyone who manage hundreds of RB751's on a site (and has many sites) will know how many hundreds of hours the support / install staff put in to tasks (annually) that a WLC would takecare of (once off)

This is the real cost and far outweighs the savings gained by using MikroTik.

The WLC is not a nice feature to have it is now a total necessity.

Come on MT.. Lets start testing this.

I couldn't agree more... We're on the verge of deploying over 800 AP's in the next few months, too bad this won't be available in time for me to make those MikroTik driven AP's...

Yep just announced, Beta in the next few days with full release planned in the coming weeks.

Unfortunately no 802.11ac AP's were announced to go along with it :( Maybe next time!

What will be the advancements compared to a Radius based control?
We're just testing RadiusManager for Hotspot control. Looks like a
very good solution ...

I thought that was part of the point of a controller. E.g. like the Unifi system. Without it I still need to stick with Unifi to get roaming.

I guess that it's to early to expect seamless roaming at initial stage of wireless controller. But, basic roaming always works fine and usually it is only 2 pings lost before connection is back to normal on another AP. I am happy with it and it is all I need from MikroTik and now it will be much easier with controller. You probabely don't need seamless roaming until you use mobile VOIP over WLAN.

I think he is asking for more than that.

Currently I can't say anything about CAPsMAN and Dude integration, I have no specific information in this area.
